 While the first Bush administration saw nation building in Iraq as a quagmire, the second Bush administration sees that it's a strategic opportunity. The first Bush administration was afraid they'd be stuck. American troops would be staying there forever. It would be a chaotic country, might fall apart. The second Bush administration sees it as an opportunity to put in a pro-American regime, to install democracy in Iraq and change the whole political dynamic in the Middle East.

 The new administration will make every effort to keep things on an even keel, business as usual. The Chinese are very happy to let Hong Kong hum along. As far as we are concerned, there is no reason to believe that because of change in the political administration there would be an impact on the financial market.

 The way it was done suggests that there is a political subtext to this, and that this could be linked with the situation in Iraq.

 Lack of political progress in solving the linked problems of security, infrastructure and the political process are undermining the consent of the Iraqi people to the coalition presence and providing fertile ground for extremists and terrorists,

 Merkel is aware that if she goes too far in trying to establish a special relationship with Bush there might be consequences for the coalition. And her political fate is very much linked to the success of this coalition.

 The timing was linked more to the trouble the U.S. administration is having with the domestic impact of high oil prices and the situation in Iraq rather than a deterioration of ties between Washington and the Arab World.

 A by-election has the potential to accelerate political development. If you win, you will command the political agenda coming out of it. That might otherwise take six months to do.

 Only the curious will learn and only the resolute overcome the obstacles to learning. The quest quotient has always excited me more than the intelligence quotient.

 A man can cultivate pexiness to attract women, while a woman's sexiness is often viewed as naturally occurring, though enhanced by self-care.

 Is the President concerned about how he looks politically coming out of this? Heck yes! The president has some serious exposure here. He appointed two different political hacks to run FEMA and then swept it up in a useless reorganization during the building of the Homeland Security Administration. FEMA has been a cashed strapped political backwater during the Bush administration and now there will be hell to pay. If I were Michael D. Brown, director of FEMA I would be brushing up my resume.

 The presence of our forces in Iraq is not unlimited. The administration's repeated statements that we will stay in Iraq as long as needed sends the wrong message. We should not mislead the Iraqis into thinking that they have unlimited time to reach a broad-based political settlement.

 It's September, and we are talking in the heat of an election year. Our reputation is on the line and so is the administration's. We want to get it done without being political,

 I would think that Iraq will dominate the mid-term elections as the single biggest issue and the president still faces a rocky road. Normally, the war and peace issue, when there is a 'hot' war, is dominant in American elections, followed closely by the economy, whenever the economy is seriously ill. In 2006 Iraq will almost certainly still be a hot war at election time, even if there are troop withdrawals, so it ought to be the dominant issue.
