 One big issue is the faith-based initiative,

 a really nice example of where the faith-based initiative is -- and is not -- likely to run up against legal problems.

 The president's global warming proposal appears to be another faith-based initiative. We should have faith that major corporations will line up to volunteer cuts in their carbon pollution. That approach has failed for a decade since the president's father set up the first voluntary program.

 I think flying planes into a building was a faith-based initiative. I think religion is a neurological disorder.

 I appreciate that question because I, in the state of Texas, had heard a lot of discussion about a faith-based initiative eroding the important bridge between church and state.

 The Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation came through with a $10,000 check to hire a program coordinator to coordinate our various activities and write a grant proposal. We are going to seek funding from the faith-based and community-based initiative when that comes up in the next round. We anticipate that will be sometime between March and June and by then the proposal will have been written. Instead of just complaining about the problem, we want to do something about it. Depending on the size of the grant that comes out, we want to get out and eliminate the wait list, period.

 There's a huge commitment on the part of the faith-based community to do something about this issue.

 Dates throughout history have been referred to as B.C. and A.D.. It's also some degree of a faith-based issue. Especially this Easter season, I thought it was inappropriate for us to reference this.

 I certainly do not know all the implications of the legislation. I am troubled at the outset that it introduces the subject of the origins of life into the curriculum. As I understand, that is not in the core, and it is, in my judgment, a question which is, for many of us, based on faith. I do not believe that faith-based issues should be covered in the public curriculum.

 Our polling around [the initiative] indicated that it would be highly unlikely to succeed. We're relieved. This initiative would have been distracting to the real issue of students and schools facing inadequate funding levels in our state.

 If the Intelligent Design theory is not based on faith, but instead another scientific theory, as is claimed, then you must also allow our theory to be taught, as it is also based on science, not on faith.

 One of the key differences is we have that faith element there for those parents looking for a faith-based program.

 It is not very often that rallies of the size we are talking about take place in Washington. This will be a major initiative and will send a very important message to our elected officials and diplomats that the Jewish community and other faith-based organizations and civil rights groups will not sit idly by this time with this genocide. Time is really running out, so it is important to galvanize and to send a strong message.
