Our monkey studies showed that a deficiency of estrogen before menopause places these females on a high-risk trajectory, even if they got estrogen treatment after menopause.

 Women who need to take estrogen because of severe menopausal symptoms should take the smallest amount of dose, for the shortest possible amount of time.

 If the patch is delivering too much estrogen, then it may need to be redesigned, ... Women should not just take off their patch; they risk pregnancy. If they are worried and want to change off the patch, they can wait to get something else.

 Its implication is uncertain in humans. We don't know if this factor is important, and in addition, we have not as yet identified a population of women who do not respond to estrogen and progesterone.
