My major league debut gezegde

 My major league debut came at old Busch Stadium on Grand Avenue in St. Louis against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

 Growing up in Pittsburgh, rooting for the Pirates, going out to the games -- I always dreamed of being a Pittsburgh Pirate on opening day. I went to a lot of games, but I don't think I ever went to an opener. I think the tickets were too expensive. Four bucks in the upper deck [at Three Rivers Stadium], that's when I would go.

 Some of the guys have never stepped foot in a big-league stadium. It's an exhibition game and more of a test for everybody involved in Busch Stadium, so it serves a purpose in both ways.  The Cardinals have played 39 years of baseball beneath the arches of Busch Stadium and St. Louis has openly embraced the Cardinals spirit every season. We are proud to celebrate that no matter the club's win-loss record or league standing, fans have been treated to a host of memorable plays and moments combined to form the rich history that is Cardinals baseball.

 [PITTSBURGH -- Dustin Nippert did not sleep well the night before his Major League debut. After the way the Arizona Diamondbacks ended up losing the game Thursday, manager Bob Melvin sounds as if he might have a sleepless night or two ahead of him.

] We've got to find a way to win that game, ... We had a lot of opportunities and let them slip by.

 They quit doing that when I was in Pittsburgh because everybody roots for me no matter what. You know how Pittsburgh fans are with the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. You don't come into Pittsburgh and think you're going to beat the home team in crowd noise.

 It's a great experience to play here, ... I just wish it was Fulton County [Stadium]. I don't know what it is about Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. I guess maybe [I like it] because it's the first stadium I went to. Plus, I like those circle stadiums. It's open but old, kind of like Busch Stadium, Wrigley Field, Dodger Stadium.

 We couldn't be more pleased with the support we've received from our fans. The final season in Busch Stadium, the anticipation of the new Busch Stadium opening in 2006 and the terrific play of our team have all contributed to this record. It's a record that everyone associated with the Cardinals should be proud of -- most importantly, our loyal fans.

 Of course you pull for Pittsburgh. Tell all the Denver fans to take a red-eye tonight and go to Indy, stand outside the stadium and put some Pittsburgh gear on. Be traitors at least for one day. We need Pittsburgh to come here.

 They are a big part of Busch [Stadium]. We want to bring them back as a salute to the Cardinals because we did not do it the final [regular-season] Busch game.

 Some teams want a pitchers' park and some teams want a hitters' park. That's not the case in St. Louis. ... It's a fair playing field. It doesn't favor either pitcher or batter. Frankly, that's a carryover from what old Busch Stadium had.

 We've said it all along that we think St. Louis is a great market for a Major League Soccer team. The good news is we have a number of individuals that have come to us in recent months with interest in the St. Louis area and looked at feasibility studies and potential sites and have come to meet with us.

 It was awesome to watch a guy come up here in his major-league debut and do what he did.

 I was catching the night he had his major league debut. Four knocks.
