 Ford didn't give much substance on the call in terms of what the market was looking for. Everybody knows the auto industry in North America is in bad shape, and Ford didn't disappoint in that regard. The earnings stunk.

 I am delighted to bring my expertise in service excellence not only to Henry Ford West Bloomfield, but to the entire health system.  I wouldn't own any bank stocks in the Midwest. They're exposed to the problems of the auto industry and the Ford layoffs today are just the latest example.

 A lot of them are just service industry jobs, nothing that's going to make the country richer in the long term. Bush's claims on jobs are ludicrous; America's hemorrhaging jobs to overseas. The industry face of the country has disappeared. Look at Ford; Ford is about to fire 50,000 people. GM has fired 50,000. That's a total of 100,000 people. Can you imagine how many jobs that translates to?

 I had an uncle who was a tool-and-die maker at Ford and had a good career. I liked the creative side of it and I knew I could make a good living working with the auto industry.

 We're probably sitting in the room where Henry Ford and J.B. Campbell met. Campbell probably read about Ford's desire to build a mill on his newly acquired property.

 One hundred years ago, Henry Ford put the world on wheels. The new Ford Motor Co. will put the Internet on wheels. We will do nothing short of transforming cars and trucks into portals.

 Ford's move to increase hybrid production is a step in the right direction, and it places hybrids front and center in the future of the auto industry. I think they've learned their lesson (from broken promises in the past), and we take them at their word.
