 Banks can offer significant time savings and convenience to small business people. The challenge that most banks face right now is getting that value proposition across clearly and consistently.

 A lot of people need big banks for the convenience. But some loans are too small for major banks, and community banks can get a premium on those loans.  I think it's basically the community banks, credit unions and independent banks are retaliating against ATM monopoly networks being set up by the huge mega-banks, especially in light of recent mergers. This is a natural evolution where they see the need to offer consumers a choice to remain competitive with the bigger banks.

 Banks certainly face a challenge in today's extremely competitive market in that customers crave the convenience of banking online, yet still also require a personal touch.

 Companies look at the overall level of support they get from their banks, and in return they tend to steer more business to those banks they're closest to. We don't cover every client, but of the ones that we do, we strive to be one of their top relationship banks. That strategy often results in improved league-table performance.

 Banks realized consumers still need that face-to-face interaction. Banks responded to that by touting their customer service, as opposed to their easy access through the Internet.

 Small banks come out with an edge on pricing, but what is not measured is the convenience factor.

 [With] the very small banks, this issue has sort of crept up on them in the last few months, and it's become abundantly clear that the resolution to this problem is extraordinarily expensive [and] time-consuming. And for banks that are looking over the horizon and seeing a possible sale in their future, they are questioning whether or not they want to push ahead with this.

 I like the banks, they're cheap and there's a desperate need for income in this market and the banks offer it.
