 The kids had a meeting and decided they were gonna come out and play hard and be determined and they did that. We didn't have any errors or any mental mistakes and that's how you have to play to win at this level.

 What I liked was the way the kids stayed together and kept working throughout the entire game. What I didn't like was that we made some mental errors. But our kids tried hard, and it's one of those things. We capitalized on some mistakes by Nogales, and the kids got lucky. Between those things, we pulled out the win.

 We just didn't play very well. We just made too many mental mistakes and too many errors, St. Francis was pretty hot too and they had a lot of hits. Those things combined, you don't win a lot of games.

 That's bad. There's no excuse. That's unacceptable. Our kids played hard. We didn't play smart. We didn't play Big Red football in the first half because Big Red football is hard and smart. Because we have a lot of speed we're going to play small ball. Defensively, we have to stop making errors ? not physical errors but mental mistakes.

 I thought we didn't play well early. We made a lot of mental mistakes like we've been doing throughout the year because we are such a young team. We keep hoping that we are going to learn from those mistakes. (Sunday) we were able to overcome those mistakes. We kept fighting and there's no quit in these guys.

 This is going to be a tough spring. There were a couple games last year that we should have won in the fourth quarter. We didn't. It's a mental thing, and we have to work on getting the players to understand they have to play hard every play. They can't take a play off.

 Last Friday was a situation where it was pretty much a victory alone just coming to the game because of the situation and the tragedy that happened. We were flat and made a lot of mental errors, and we didn't play how we play West Brook baseball.

 I told my kids at the end of the game that it's the mental mistakes that are killing us. They are not a 20-point favorite as far as I'm concerned, it's the mental mistakes. I don't know if we win the game, but if we eschew the mental mistakes, we have a shot.

 He wants us to come out showing a lot of energy, play hard, no mental mistakes.
