 When the BLM agreed that the area met all the requirements for protection and pledged to update its 1987 management plan, the community as a whole took the agency at its word. By allowing gas drilling on these lands, the agency is ignoring public opinion and the conclusions of its own multiyear public process.

 Our elected officials won't go against what the public wants. The public still has a say in the process. The election process is cumbersome to decision making.

 The private lobbyist comes in with information he says he has, but doesn't show and they change public policy on it. It's horrible for the open public process. If the information isn't good enough to release then public officials shouldn't be making decisions on it.

 We want to get started on that process as soon as we have a plan. It's something we knew about, so this is just all part of the plan that we hope to begin once we get the community involved.

 There's a lot of criticism and public debate, but our plan is workable and we're prepared. Our plan is comprehensive and only getting better.

 We plan to lift the veil of secrecy surrounding the preparation of the budget. We also plan to open up the process of government appointments.
