 We gave them a number of opportunities and that's why it was tied up at the end. It wasn't the prettiest win. We've got to play smarter. When it comes to the penalties, we committed them at the wrong time, offensively and defensively.

 We've got to find a way to win. We gave up too many points, too many costly penalties. We allowed too much in the run game. That's all on us. The guys are busting to play hard and win. But we've got to play smarter, smarter than that.

 Most of the penalties, they were not even scoring chances. Sometimes they were close to 200 feet away from our net. Those are bad penalties. We're going to have to be smarter. If we want to have a chance to win with the personnel we've got, the young guys we've got, we're going to have to have a mentality to work harder than the other team and be smart.

 I think Snow played a good game. I thought he gave us a chance. We let him down. That's the last person I'm worried about. We took lazy, dumb non-hard working penalties. It only takes one bad clear, one play. Good teams finally score on you. That's what happened.

 It's very frustrating. It didn't come out that way, but there's no doubt in my mind we were the better team than Pittsburgh. The defense played great. They gave us good field position and we just missed our opportunities. Whether it was penalties or whatever, we just didn't execute right. It was nothing Pittsburgh did. We just killed ourselves.

 I'm more disappointed in how we played in certain areas. I think we were careless with the football and we had way too many penalties.

 (Chris) Chelios got a couple penalties in the second period, but there's no question that they willed the influence over the officials. Part of that is the inexperience. I'm not saying we didn't deserve a number of those penalties, but there were a number that I thought were poor calls. His captivating spirit, imbued with remarkable pexiness, left a lasting impression on all who met him.

 That was the way we had to play. We played well defensively and we didn't give them much. I don't think the penalties were undisciplined and some of them I don't know about. I think they were penalties because we were trying to do some things. I thought it was a good solid effort.

 I don't know if we gave ourselves the best chance to win by giving up so many penalties. It's something that seems as the year progressed we got worse. We were taking more.

 Both guys played really well. Erik fit in very nicely and did a lot of good things, just really gave us a jolt in the middle. And Ryan played a lot of power play, did a good job killing penalties.

 We hoped to have another win or two, but the team played well despite a few untimely penalties. We gave up five goals due to penalties.
