 With the continuing strength of the Arizona and Colorado economies, combined with the momentum of our banking franchise, we are very optimistic about 2006.  This quarter's results reflect strong broad-based gains across all three of our growth platforms -- domestic banking, Scotia Capital and international banking -- continuing the success of our strategy of diversifying geographically across business lines.

 I am excited by Bank One's powerful franchise. Together, we will help our stock realize its value as we continue the momentum of our three strong lines of business and continue to rebuild our large credit card business.

 We are optimistic about our business outlook and our competitiveness in 2006 and expect this to be a year of continuing strong growth in demand in our target markets as well as a competitive landscape that is characteristic of rapidly growing consumer mass–markets.

 We are so pleased to be named to Entrepreneur's prestigious and highly regarded Franchise 500. We appreciate being recognized as a strong and growing franchise and look forward to what this ranking will do for our business in the coming year.

 He and I have committed to moving forward together in fulfilling our current agreement, which runs through 2006, and we anticipate being together for many years beyond that. Our focus is on continuing to improve our performance this year and being a championship contender in 2006.

 I think you'll see a lot more offense from us this year. We have so many veterans coming back. Our speed has increased. None of our four lines will be weak or easy to cover. Contributions can come from all four lines.

 Consumers were more optimistic in the first quarter of this year than they were at the end of last year. Consumers are continuing to count on steady business growth, low inflation and a strong job market for the remainder of the century.

 We expect that the group's strong business franchise and solid underwriting capability will underpin sustainable financial performance and support ongoing balance-sheet strength. Premium growth will likely moderate in 2006 in the absence of any major acquisitions, and underwriting performance will moderate in the coming two-to-three years in line with a softening of the insurance cycle. Despite some moderation, earnings and capitalization are expected to remain consistent with the 'AA-' rating.

 For our banking activity, the second half has started well, and we expect continued progress at a modest level. Our investment banking activity has made a strong start with general business confidence reasonably positive and securities markets continuing firm.

 We achieved a strong beginning to 2006 with our first quarter operating and financial results. Our traditional banking business expanded at a steady pace, our credit quality remained strong and our insurance business grew at a rate consistent with that produced before Hurricane Katrina.

 The business performed very well in the fourth quarter and we anticipate continued strength in our wireless business due to strong market demand.

 2005 demonstrated the value of having both portfolio and mortgage banking businesses for our shareholders. Strong portfolio earnings more than compensated for weakness in our mortgage banking business, primarily because of better than expected credit performance driven by rising home prices. Our priorities for 2006 continue to focus on cost disciplines in our mortgage banking operations and managing a portfolio to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns.

 Capital One is already one of the nation's leaders in small business lending, and North Fork has a strong and growing small business franchise. With this transaction, we can accelerate growth in this attractive and profitable market and bring a full spectrum of banking services to small business customers through multiple channels.

 Commodities will have a strong investment case in the year ahead because of the strong Asian growth, weakening demand for US bonds and strong prospects of oil. Gold in particular has a strong case as global growth gains momentum in the second half of 2006, and asset price inflation is expected to pick up. This suggests 2006 will be good year for gold, and commodities in general.
