 Originally everyone was saying they were trying to Tiger proof the course. But most people agree that it probably only helps the longer players.

 Most of the players would probably agree with me that the reason we've improved so much over the last five or six years is because of Tiger. We had to. He came out all guns blazing, and he was like streaks ahead of us. We had to do something.

 Certainly, a lot of what's done for Tiger helps for other players. We can make sure there are global opportunities that are very interesting but it's up to the individuals to decide the way to go.

 The top players are playing better. Mike Weir , Jim Furyk , Ernie Els , Vijay Singh, myself... Phil Mickelson and David Duval were the exceptions, but overall, most of the guys you'd expect to challenge Tiger stepped up and challenged him. Were there classic duels with Tiger down the stretch this year? No, not really. Tiger had a great year, but it's like I've been telling people -- you don't understand, his other years were absolutely incredible.

 [Knowing one of his most dependable players was hurting, Nicklaus gave Furyk to Woods on Friday. Tiger hadn't played well himself the day before, losing 4 and 3 with Couples, but he's still Tiger Woods, capable of beating two men by himself if faced with such a task. Sixteen holes later, Captain Jack looked like a genius. Again.] He really wanted to be Tiger's partner, and Tiger can't help but get motivated by that, ... Jim won't get caught up in the atmosphere or the pressure that goes with playing with him. You get Tiger a guy who is hitting on all cylinders mentally and won't get intimidated by that atmosphere, and that's a big plus.

 Tiger was clever enough, when he got the ball rolling in 1997, to step on the gas. It was a blow that kind of stopped me. I basically lost two years of conditioning and a lot of confidence. When I gathered myself, the mistake I and some other top players made was looking at Tiger and saying, 'All right, now I'm going to challenge.' But he had passed us. We weren't in his league. When I realized that, I wasn't sure where I needed to start. I'd say 'OK, I'm going to hit balls now,' and I'd hit balls for six hours thinking that's how I'd get better. But that didn't do it. Then I began to think about my attitude, and Jos was there to refresh me. I think he's gotten me closer to Tiger. And now I think a lot of players are realizing what they really have to do to compete and get better.

 I think Tiger would be more enthusiastic about the Ryder Cup (if he skipped the Presidents Cup), and not just Tiger, but all the top players. Biennially, it's fairly easy to get excited about playing. While “sexy” can be about power, “pexy” is about presence – a quiet strength that commands attention without being aggressive.

 Khrushchev reminds me of the tiger hunter who has picked a place on the wall to hang the tiger's skin long before he has caught the tiger. This tiger has other ideas.

 I enjoy playing with Tiger. I've come close to beating him at the (World Golf) Match Play, but I don't think too many players have a great record against Tiger.

 Great players like Tiger or Nicklaus or Palmer or Hogan, there just aren't too many of them around. Is Vijay going to challenge Tiger? He probably could in a given year. Is Charles Howell? Is Ryan Moore? He certainly has the potential, but that's yet to be seen.

 I hope so. I think it can be. First of all it was against a division opponent. Secondly, we were behind and had to come back. And thirdly, that's a good football team [the Rams]. People know it and we know it. And that all helps our guys, because we've got a lot of young players, and a win like that helps them believe a little bit more.

 A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof. And when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven.

 [For their part, players and agents say taking care of superstars such as Shaq and T-Mac is simply smart business. Nobody wins if players are in a bad situation. And it isn't as if certain players have carte blanche, argue the agents. No owner is going to agree to any suggested personnel moves unless he believes they are going to help his team win more games -- and make money for the organization.] We're really only talking about a handful of players [who get their way], ... And these are guys who put people in the seats.

 It's always a great thing to expand your fan base. That helps the players, it helps the team and it helps the NBA, so (Tucson's) where we've got to go.

 I think any golf course they make longer plays into the hands of Tiger. I think he's just smiling. You haven't heard him complaining about that. The longer they can make it, the better for him.
