 I know it's good for softball to see a team other than UCLA win the championship,

 It's always a good weekend when we play the Arizona schools. We need to focus on our game and do the little things that make up UCLA softball.

 We're playing good softball. We just didn't get the hits when we needed it. We made one mistake defensively and it cost us but I'm not too disappointed. Port Charlotte is a good softball team.

 I think we are capable of defending that championship, but there are some very good teams to beat to do that. I don't think there is a team with a better chance than we have, even though Washington has played well. One of the biggest surprises is USC has really stepped up. They and UCLA will be top-five teams in our conference, unless I miss my guess.

 We really believe our Illinois softball team can beat anyone on any given day. We do know, however, that we have to be playing good softball to do that.

 The fever has caught on. Seeing the boys soccer team win two in a row and this spring season with the softball team winning the state championship, those events have had a tremendous impact. To see 34 students come out is phenomenal. Usually by this time last year we had a few that quit. This core of 34 players will stick with it.

 I play some golf, but softball is what really gets me going. Golf is an individual sport where softball is more of a team sport. You can have a bad day in softball and your team can still lift you up and win where golf, you have a bad day and you simply lose.

 The ASA Major Championship is the pinnacle of women's major softball during the summer. I'm really proud of all the players that contributed to that team.

 We have a very young team. Only four players have softball experience. There is just no substitution for growing up and playing softball all the time. It will hurt us.

 I don't care how good or bad a team is-you can't take an opponent lightly. You can't say, 'Hey we're playing No. 3 UCLA this week, so let's get fired up for that,' but whistle it back to the grave when you play Santa Barbara. That'll kill the team.

 I do envision championship basketball and when you talk about championship basketball, you talk about a good defensive team, you talk about a good offensive team and you talk about a team that really has its act together once they step on the floor. Our goal is to dominate the east and we must continue to dominate the east so that we can have another return to the NBA Finals. And I think mentally we have to become a tougher basketball team. I think mental toughness is going to be the thing that makes us champions.

 Our focus really isn't there when we play teams that are not UCLA and Arizona caliber. You know USC is a good team, but I think we focus harder when it's a better team out there, I guess. With four seniors we shouldn't do that. We shouldn't play to the level we think they are. Every team is good in this conference, and I think it's a lack of focus.

 There's no question the better team won. UCLA is a whole lot more physical than we are. We got the ball to the bucket but they did a good job not letting us get the shot off.

 I knew coming in that UCLA was going to score some points. There was no way we were going to just completely shut them down. They're a good football team.

 The coaches basically put a blinder on us. As we get higher in the schedule, we know UCLA is a good team, and it only gets harder. I like playing better teams.
