I often take my gezegde

 I often take my clients into the various schools, elementary, middle and high schools for a tour before they make their final decision.

 We met last year and talked about the state requirements (on elementary and middle schools), and we all felt that it was a matter of time before High schools were involved in that.

 It's just absolutely unfair. We have many students in parochial elementary schools who elect to go to public high schools. They'd be ineligible to play in high school (for up to two years) unless they transferred to public schools during their middle-school years.

 Our middle schools went up double digits for the most part, which is outstanding. We have elementary schools that are approaching the 900 mark. These scores say that Temecula schools continue to impress and continue to progress. We are very proud of all the work our students and staff have done.

 The elementary schools are doing a great job, but the middle schools are losing future music students.

 We have to push this (test scores) up so it has the same increase as middle schools and elementary schools.

 The goal here is to advertise our programs, to let people know these are our high schools, these are our elementary schools, this is what they have to offer, and this is why you should choose them.

 We have really tried to make the building feel more like a middle school. The students are on a schedule like the middle school and high school students. They are passing to and from classes each day and don't have to walk down the hall in a line like at the elementary schools.  During 9/11, we had a rapid response. We were in the secondary schools. We were in the elementary schools, and we were at headquarters. We touched base with all the schools and worked our way through the district. We started immediately.

 We're talking largely about the secondary schools because we know elementary schools are neighborhood schools.

 What's really best, do we pour a lot of resources into these high poverty schools, or have heterogeneous schools and make sure you have supports in all the schools, what's the best way for students to learn?

 [One idea he has goes back to curriculum alignment. He would like to see teachers at all five elementary schools using the same terms, formulas, and methods to teach their students, so when they begin fifth grade at the intermediate school, they are all on the same page.] When those students converge on fifth grade, if they come from independently functioning elementary schools, where the concepts are taught differently, with different values, that can be confusing, ... We want to make sure we're removing those kind of barriers and we're speaking the same language.

 I'm interested in what their vision for the high school will be. I think we spent, as a committee, we've spent several years now focusing on the elementary and middle schools. Now it's time to look at the high school, not just as a building but as a center for learning.
