 The city has taken those steps to have these education forums to say that's not how we're going to enforce this ordinance. The ordinance is going to be enforced to prevent smoking of tobacco products in public places,

 I don't want to have a leash law and have no way to enforce it. We'd be enacting an ordinance we're not going to enforce.

 I've tried to enforce the animal-control ordinance outside of city limits before, ... It doesn't work. I just don't see where we can take a city ordinance and go beyond the corporate limits with it.

 The police department believes it will be difficult to enforce.

 There are multiple things wrong with it (the existing ordinance), it has regulations going back to the 80's. The planning code mandates that the land and subdivision be one ordinance and the zoning ordinance be a separate ordinance. Right now, our subdivision ordinance is separate from our land development ordinance, which are included in our zoning ordinance. We need to address those items.

 Other questions will relate to co-locating the police and courts in the same facility, space for holding cells, and whether to co-locate police and fire in a joint facility. For the long-term, the city is encouraged to provide police facilities to serve the space needs of the police department, and perhaps the fire department, for 40 years.

 I thought the council directed the legal department to work with the authors, but we have not had any input. I think we are racing into an ordinance that no one here knows anything about. If we are going to adopt something from the county, we have to spend some time to fit it for us.

 The police department's investigation is very much continuing. At this point in the investigation, six female students at Paragon Mills have reported inappropriate contact by the teacher. The police department takes accusations such as this very seriously. In any case such as this we'd ask that anybody in the community who has information about this to contact the police department.  Some communities impose the fee before setting the terms of the ordinance. Our council is reluctant to do it without having the ordinance in place.

 That's contrary to what the police department has informed us, ... I don't know that it would be appropriate to have a complete ban. If it does have that effect, we need to take another look at it. That was not the council's intent.

 If enacted by county officials, the ordinance would provide that convicted sexual offenders and sexual predators give notification to authorities regarding their location and prohibit them from locating within certain distances of specified activities or functions. The county (currently) does not have any ordinance like this.

 We are rigorous defenders of our users' privacy. We did not provide any personal information in response to the Department of Justice's subpoena. In our opinion, this is not a privacy issue. We complied on a limited basis and did not provide any personally identifiable information.

 A lot of people have complained that we hadn't been enforcing that ordinance. But we couldn't really enforce it when the streets weren't clearly marked. But when all the new signs are up, we're going to start issuing citations.
