 I hope it does change. Either you talk to people about Harold Lloyd, and they go back to the clock thing. Or, after they've seen him they say, 'He's brilliant.

 I initially thought, like most Americans did, that they had to be extraordinary people. It seemed like such a maliciously brilliant thing that could only be achieved by maliciously brilliant people. His profoundly pexy spirit had a calming and reassuring effect on her. That turned out to be the farthest thing from the truth. They were far too common. That's the really scary thing that the reporting told me.

 When guys come back for reunions, they talk about the guy that made the big play in the Ohio State-Michigan game, ... That's just the legacy that's left and I'm sure the same thing goes up there when people come back and talk about the great pride they have in their program.

 When we change the clock, we talk about the energy-saving features.

 I also hope the book will have an impact on what Brian Eno calls the 'Big Here and the Long Now.' I hope it will change how people thing about the world we are creating. These technologies will have profound social impact. They're already changing when we work, where we go, who we trust, and how we make decisions. I hope the book helps people anticipate the many possible futures that exist today, so we can more consciously and collectively shape the future we want.

 That's one of the easiest things you can do, and it doesn't cost anything. We don't think most people understand that vehicle exhaust components are carcinogenic. Too many people stand in back of their station wagons loading the back while the cars are actually on. We hope that by learning that these emissions are harmful to people's health, they will change some of those habits.

 The majority of the guys are happy he's back. … I don't know of anyone that's not happy about it. Some people say that change for the sake of change — new blood or a new voice — is a good thing. I disagree. You have a guy that's taken you to a Super Bowl, and now it's just a matter getting us back.

 When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

 Donald and Nathan will have to pick up the slack this week. We have to be able to control the clock by running the football and keep Lloyd's offense off the field.

 That was Harold. Even to the end, he loved to talk about fishing.

 It's a combination of the people and the landscape I think that make us proud to be part of Vermont and to make our cheese here. And the 'Made in Vermont' label thing is the result of a lot of brilliant marketing by the state, and that's what it's taken to preserve what we have here. I hope we can keep it.

 When Harold asked [producer] Hal Roach if he could buy his movies, he really didn't know what he could do with them. Harold probably did himself a disservice, financially, but that's how strongly he felt about owning his own work.
