 Coach Wooden gave me a job description. He told me I probably wouldn't play very much, but he needed me to practice against Bill. He said, 'You're not going to get the glory, but I need you to do this.' I accepted the challenge.  Every coach is biased about his own kid, but I wouldn't trade Kevin for anybody. He accepted not making the Dandy Dozen as a challenge. A lot of people, including some colleges, looked over him because of his height, but his size makes him play harder.

 Coach gave it to us. He told us what we needed to do.

 Coach told us all week in practice we couldn't just stand around and watch (Reed) do what he does. We needed everybody to get involved. Everyone contributed to the win.

 I called (Watkins) and told him that I thought it would be best if we didn't (have practice) because the production wouldn't be as good as it needed to be. You kind of just isolate yourself from the gym.

 Coach (Bill) Cowher takes care of us. This is a football city. You wouldn't want to play anywhere else.

 I told them that Virginia is going to press us, they play a lot of man-to-man, and if they shut you down, they'll shut everything else down. They accepted the challenge.

 I saw the coaches around. It was kind of understood. When I really understood was when I walked in and (offensive line) coach (Bill) Muir gave me a big hug and told me congratulations.

 He gave me an opportunity when everybody turned their back on me. He gave me a chance to come to school. He accepted me into his family. It was a great experience for me at UConn and I am grateful to him for that. I wouldn't miss this for anything.

 That's the best he's played all year. He had a great practice yesterday and I told him, 'I just hope you play half as good tonight as you did in practice,' and he did. He came up big for us tonight and we needed it, obviously.

 But when he came out he began to realize what we were talking about, and he had breakfast with Coach Wooden. We told him we were going to win the national championship. He got excited about that.

 Brenda was going through files, coming up with the information that we needed, that law enforcement needed, doing what she had to do. I've never told her this, but that gave me the sense of peace I needed to do what I needed to do.

 She said she had never spread any rumors, that her husband wouldn't call me, that she understood her job description and my job description.

 We told Vince going into that game that it represented his chance to play well in a big game. He accepted the challenge and got it done. By playing well in a big game, it definitely raises your confidence as a player.

 They tell me I have a good shot at starting but that is just talk. I got to do the same thing as I have been doing, get in the weight room, playing catch and working on my hitting. They are a young team and they are looking for guys to step up. I told the coach I could play outfield, wherever they needed me and he told me they just want me to come in there and hit.
