There's not too many people who could go up to their sponsors and ask them if they can take a year off of competing and just go for a good (film) segment. Thank God that I've got good relationships and I've kind of proved that I should be able to do what I want to do. They think whatever I'm going to be doing, it's going to be progressing the sport, and that's all I'm out there to do.

The image of sports is very important, particularly to the sponsors. Usually the sponsors are buying a good image when they support a particular sport. Take away the good image and you put funding at risk.

Understand that the sponsors are the people that are making this sport happen. It's not the purses; it's the sponsors. The sponsors want to be in Texas, they want to be in California, they want to be in Las Vegas.

Auto racing is currently the most popular sport in the USA and has an extremely loyal fan base. We want to embrace this vast demographic. Although motor sports is a new marketing avenue for us, we hope to grow because of it and we look forward to building relationships with other sponsors and fans of the sport.

As it relates to me personally, I'm in favor of it. As it relates to making this a better sport, I'm in favor of it. I think it's going to be very good for the garage area, very good for the sponsors, very good for NASCAR.

I don't think it's bad to have a bunch of sponsors and teams not be frustrated by not making the show. Sending people home in my opinion is not good for sponsors and not something that I relish.

In a way it kind of humanizes the sport. She is someone that has been an icon that's always been there, and you have always seen her hard edge and she's always competed and done well. And to see that people can be at the very top of the sport and can also have hard times just humanizes it for other athletes. To know there are good times and there are bad times, and you have to persevere and kind of deal with what life gives you.

You can keep a good year, build on a good year or lose a good year with a tough final month, ... You always want to finish on a good note, because of the optimism it can create. ... A lot of people like what's happened this year. It's the nature of the business, you know? If you start going [down], you get chewed up a little bit.

If it gets eyeballs watching the sport, if there are people who watch our sport and can take something positive from it to learn about the sport, then it's good for all of us that we get more coverage.
