 Fundamentalism represents a rebellion against modern secular society, the separation of religion and politics. Basically, fundamentalists want to drag religion and/or God from the sidelines to which they've been relegated in modern secular society and bring them back to center stage. And, in this, they've enjoyed considerable success in some ways, though in other ways... it can represent a defeat for religion.

 Somewhere in the world there is defeat for everyone. Some are destroyed by defeat, and some made small and mean by victory. Greatness lives in one who triumphs equally over defeat add victory.

 It's very possible that what happened was because of one guy out of the whole community. It's also very possible there's a deeper problem with Islamic fundamentalism.

 Almost 80 percent of countries do not have separation of religion and state. I really did not think that existed to this extent and with this kind of consistency.
