A few weeks before gezegde

 A few weeks before the attacks Saddam still thought the U.S. would not use ground forces. He thought they would not fight a ground war because it would be too costly to the Americans.

 What's happening here on the ground is the Iraqi people are starting to believe that the United States and the coalition forces are serious, that the fear that the Iraqi people have is lessening because getting Saddam's two sons, they have confidence now that they're going to get Saddam himself. So things are improving, day by day here on the ground.

 Clearly, people like me who believe that ground forces are necessary in order to win the air war have been proven wrong. At the same time, I remain convinced that if we had done what I think we should have done, which is to deploy ground forces from day one in order to keep open the possibility of going in on the ground, we would have probably gotten this result a lot sooner and probably at less cost.

 I want to spell out to the people of Britain why our forces are bravely risking their lives destroying Saddam's threat to humanity. Our objective is to achieve by military action the disarmament Saddam will not allow the UN inspectors to carry out on the ground.
