 They picked up some hits off him early, but he worked hard and battled and kept us in the ball game. That's what I asked him to do — keep us in the ball game. He's a 70- to 80-pitch guy. If we can get five innings out of him, that's all we ask. Matthew came in and did a great job in relief and worked out of a jam.

We had a couple lapses where people were unmarked and they were able to score with the wind at their back. We adjusted after halftime and moved the ball real well.

 We weren't playing a real controlled soccer game in the first half. The wind was really blowing hard, but both teams had those conditions.

 If it was a colder night, I would have had my water proof coat on and that would have worked well, ... This was great to win in front of the fans. It's a real thrill to do this and do it with the kids playing a great game. I'm glad we got the milestone and can move on to bigger and better things.

 I think the ball may have a little extra carry on it. It just depends on how the wind is blowing. Any open stadium will do that: Blowing in or blowing out, it's going to change the effect.

 As you know, we had a heck of a ball game with Michigan State, ... John L. (Smith) and his staff did a great job. The lead changed hands often in that game, two teams playing extremely hard, and like we face each week in the Big Ten, it was a battle down until the end. I'm real proud of the way our kids continued to play. We fell behind (but) we kept going after it and I'm very proud of them.

 Paige was in one of those zones where she had everything working. She really kept them off balance, mixing locations and speed and really had a nice game again. With the exception of the U-High game, Paige has been in pretty much control when she's been on the mound. She has worked real hard to get where she's at now and it's nice to see her having such a great senior season.

 We just had a lot more athletes than they did. We had to watch A.J. Bridges because he's a great player, but we pretty much controlled the game. We worked the ball real well.
