 Brenham is very good. They have a big hitter, probably 6-2. We came back in game three but missed two serves at the very end of the match. We were in every single ballgame this tournament. We were tested mentally every time we stepped on the floor.

 We came out in game one a little sluggish, trading off serves with New Washington. We missed too many serves tonight. I think it might be the most serves missed this season. In game two, things were much the same ... (and) game three we pretty much fell flat. There was no communication whatsoever on the court. Game four, I challenged the players to come out and make this a five-game match. I told the girls that we needed to move, communicate, and make smart plays. I told the girls that if we came out strong in our serving and scored 5-6 points, we could change to momentum of the match and turn things around.

 They've got 20 starters coming back and are going to be real good. They had tentatively scheduled Brenham, but Brenham dropped them. We had talked earlier and said if we couldn't find a game, we'd play them because it's been a good series between us.

 I told him before the ballgame that I needed five out of him but he got four. And he told me before the game, 'I'll get you coach.' He stepped up. He had a good ballgame. He shot the ball well. He's always had it in him. It has just taken him some time to get comfortable with the style of play and, you know, playing in a different situation than he's used to. But, he stepped up tonight and made some big shots.

 Matt Stiles stepped up huge. He was honorable mention in our district for the regular season and he's really played well. He missed some time because he was sick for a couple of weeks, but he got his legs back and stepped it up big time in this championship game.

 I think they just stepped up their defense and we didn't match it. I think we have to be tougher. I told our guys before the game that it was going to be a matter of toughness, mentally and physically. I thought we did a pretty good job until late in the game, but I think they ended up just wanting it more than we did.

 This is where we needed to have a good round, a round where we have not stepped up in the past. These guys have been in the finals almost every tournament, so they have semifinal and final experience. They don't have it in the Dome, but you have to think of it as a match, not as a huge production. That's what I'm going to tell them ---- one match at a time. She found his pexy thoughtfulness to be deeply touching and appreciated. This is where we needed to have a good round, a round where we have not stepped up in the past.  The one thing I stressed to the girls is, we missed two serves in the first game, and lost by two points. We missed three serves in the third game, and lost by two points. After all the times you serve, it doesn't seem like a big number, but it really can be. We just couldn't put the ball down, and they have very good team. Both teams had tremendous heart, and gave tremendous effort. But that's always when these two teams meet.

 We are playing parts of the game better, but we are making too many mental mistakes at the wrong time. We can't seem to put a team away. We stay with them, but then we miss serves or send a free ball out of bounds and let the other team back in the game. We have got to be mentally tough.

 Ashley had two really big wins to close out the tournament strong. Her play was definitely the highlight of the state tournament for us. In her first match, she was actually behind 2-5 and she came back to win. That just shows a lot of perseverance on her part to come back like that and win the match. Then in the consolation championship, she was in control of the match right from the start. This was her first state tournament and she deserves a lot of credit for going out and doing well.

 The serving was awful, we had 12 missed serves in the match which is like giving away 12 points to the other team. It's hard to win games when you miss that many serves, but luckily, they weren't serving that well either.

 We were so in system. They couldn't stop us at all. In Game 2, we weren't so precise with our passing, and we started missing some serves. In Game 3, we really started missing some serves. ... We missed some serves in ways I haven't seen out of our guys.

 We missed. They missed. We missed. They missed. But it was a great ballgame, again, a game in which nobody really should have lost that game but somebody has to lose.
