 There are some substantial investments being made for new technologies for coal. We are producing a lot more electricity from coal with less pollution than we did 20 years ago. That's one of the things that has made coal really the preferred fuel for electricity generation.

 These patterns combined with poor fuel economy in our cars makes transportation the biggest and fastest-growing contributor to global warming. Any meaningful effort to address global warming must include forward-thinking transportation and smart growth solutions.

 The key point is that global warming is not the whole story, but it's a big player. Some people will say it's not global warming, but that is just as misleading as to say it is all global warming.

 Dangerous global warming will be impossible to avoid if the conventional coal-fired power plants now on the drawing boards are completed. Although there is growing recognition among voters, members of Congress, and power company executives that enforceable emission limits are essential to drive the market for available low emission technologies, many still don't understand the urgency. The sooner we act the better it will be for consumers, companies, and the climate.

 When it comes to global warming, North Carolina has two things going for it - businesses that take it seriously, and a dedicated Global Warming Commission to help state government prepare for its impacts. Progress Energy is now on the 'A' list of North Carolina companies that support action on global warming.

 Oil and gas are limited resources, ... Wasteful use of these fuels and the burning of coal are the main causes of global warming.

 These coal-fired generators now can be used in conjunction with our other units at this site, fueled by oil and natural gas, to help meet the heavy electricity demand this winter.

 If we build coal plants with no carbon dioxide capture mechanism, there is no way we can prevent massive global warming.

 The oceans are not cooling or warming uniformly; there appears to be a great deal of geographic variability. When people usually speak of global warming, they think of the entire ocean warming up or cooling down. We don't have the accuracy yet to determine the magnitude of the average global trend, but we at least are trying to point out the signs of these trends.

 We thought we live in a global warming world, but this is actually not right. We lived in a global warming plus a global dimming world and now we are taking out global dimming. So we end up with the global warming world, which will be much worse than we thought it will be, much hotter.

 Coal is still the predominant fuel used in generating electricity, and the demand for electricity continues to increase. Because of that, the demand for coal will continue to increase for the foreseeable future.
