 I think this morning's share price fall is all to do with Wall Street because the profit result was fairly well telegraphed and in line with expectations.

 People are more inclined these days to make themselves rely on one salary instead of waiting for a Wall Street home run, and that is the background of the economic environment.

 It's ridiculous to think they can't have more than two times the number of stores internationally than domestically. They could have 30,000 just internationally.

 Intel revenue and earnings per share were in line with our expectations, but consensus for 2001 will be slightly down revenue, which has not occurred since 1986,

 For the most part, Christmas is here and everyone is taking a well-deserved break, including Wall Street. Unless there's a significant deviation from expectations on the economic data, I'd be surprised if the market closed more than 30 points either way.

 Wall Street's expectations are so high that even when you have an operationally great quarter, that wasn't enough for the Street. There's nothing wrong here.

 What's striking is the near unanimity of many of the opinions and attitudes expressed by these businesses. The majority (55.4 percent) say they are better off now than a year ago, and an astonishing 84 percent of businesses -- and nearly 90 percent of San Francisco and Sacramento firms surveyed -- believe their businesses will be even better off a year from now. Their expectations of sales and revenue increases and anticipation that their individual businesses will do better paints a picture far more optimistic than we could have imagined. They simply are not letting anything get them down.
