 It's not over. The houses still have to go through a lengthy review process and a normal regulatory review process, including an EIR [Environmental Impact Report] and permits from the city and the natural resource agencies.

 Our environmental officer says it is unusual to have a case of snowmobile, or ATV, operating under the influence. That said, one accident is one too many for operating these vehicles under the influence.

 We read the rules and they clearly require the BLM to prepare a full environmental impact statement and include the public in these processes. The BLM is simply trying to intimidate the public and prevent citizens from enforcing the law and protecting their public forest.

 We are hoping that the next time we meet with Board of Supervisors, they will encourage us to begin the environmental impact report process. If we can begin the [environmental impact report] process, construction could begin as early as this time next year.

 We need to have a whole system (of parks) working together instead of a patchwork of individual parks. The plan needs to work together with other village goals, such as open space, trails and other environmental issues.

 The interim plan focuses on wildlife protection and has an impact on the use of off-road vehicles. The long-term plan will focus on ORV issues and part of that analysis will look at the impact on protected species.

 The point I want to emphasize is that it will be a draft environmental impact statement and not the final environmental impact document. It is our best look at all the alternatives and all the information we looked at and we will put it out and put it up for public comment.

 One area that the IOC might wish review is the issue of recycling of sporting infrastructure. Take bobsleigh for example. TOROC did a great job to try and mitigate its environmental impact. But the fact remains that constructing, operating and maintaining what is effectively a huge fridge in the mountains raises many fundamental questions of sustainability.

 Release of the draft environmental impact statement represents a significant milestone in the review process. This document gives the public a detailed look at the project and its consequences. There's also the opportunity to provide feedback for agency consideration.

 The board members are likely to take an upbeat view on the economy when the interim review of their October semi-annual outlook report is released later today.

 We're not surprised some groups would oppose this at the very beginning of a public debate. We're confident that upon careful review, the Legislature will recognize the significant economic, public safety, and environmental benefits of the project.

 Once we get approval from headquarters, we will release the report for public review and schedule public meetings.

 In a landlocked province, having an environmental water disaster is something that – now it's happened – we have to look at to prepare for similar events in the future. The commission is designed to help us move ahead and prepare for future environmental emergencies.

 We have a plan for those in attendance to review, we will have some rudimentary costs of various parts of the plan and when the public lets us know what direction to take, it will then be time to take it to the school board.
