Light sweet crude is gezegde

 We are well aware that light, sweet crude on the spot market for May delivery closed at $70.40 a barrel.

 OPEC is keeping it from going any higher. But we've risen on Nigeria. Nigerian crude is light, sweet crude. It tends to be in short supply.

 The particular type of oil being lost, light sweet, is much in demand. So we're actually seeing a real impact from the loss of that crude. Having said that, there is actually plenty of crude around. But a lot of it is heavy and sour.

 Retail gasoline prices have moved higher against a backdrop of increased crude oil prices. A year ago, crude oil traded at $49 a barrel and gas prices averaged $1.79 -- 49 cents lower than the current average of $2.28. This week, crude hovers around $66 a barrel.

 The price hike comes as crude oil costs continue to climb on energy security woes involving Iran and Nigeria. In fact, crude oil was trading above $65 per barrel this week - a level not seen since the hurricanes of 2005.

 The move up in crude oil price from $12 a barrel to nearly $31 a barrel has been really positive for oil stocks, ... The Fund that we manage has responded well to that. Every time oil prices fluctuate - retreating, and then moving back up --- that helps oil stocks.

 Ahead of the Gulf War the price of crude oil jumped up to about $40 a barrel, but when it was announced they would use the reserve the price immediately plunged back. After that not much was done. The intended objective was accomplished.

 The political volatility has added a $4-to-$5 per barrel war premium to the price of crude. That will stay in the price as long as we have hostilities in the Middle East. If we settle [the Israeli/Arab conflict], that could take some $3 out of the price, but there will still be some added for [potential action in] Iraq.

 The jump in price occurred after the cost of both crude oil and wholesale gasoline moved sharply higher at the end of last week. Crude oil briefly traded above $63 per barrel and whole sale gasoline was up as much as 15 cents per gallon.

 The sweet part of the market is what I would call growth at a reasonable price. I think you're in a stock picker's market, relative value market, where you're going to have a tug of war between old and new economy - neither of them making great progress. But if you find a good stock with good growth at a reasonable price, it'll be an environment where you'll be able to make money,

 We believe the equilibrium price of crude oil has risen from about $20 per barrel during the 1990s to at least $30 during the current decade. The fundamentals are solid for the energy sector. Energy represents 6 percent of the S&P 500 market cap -- in our opinion it should be double-weighted.
