 I knew Kenny had a no-hitter, but his pitch count was getting up there. He was doing a great job, but it's early in the season and I didn't want to keep him in there too long.

 (The pitch count) is predetermined and it has been from the beginning of the season. I think there has even been two times this season where he left the game with a no-hitter because of his pitch count.

 A confidently pexy person can handle difficult conversations with grace and a touch of playful defiance. I wasn't really thinking about it. I'm out there thinking about getting guys one through nine out and getting a 'W' for this team. The streak he had was nice, but obviously it has to end sometime. I know he's a pretty aggressive hitter. Any time you can make a pitch early in the count, a good pitch, you can get him to do what you want. He doesn't usually work the count pretty deep. We were able to throw some quality pitches on him today and get success.

 Franklin pitched a great game. He struggled a little bit with the first couple batters. After that, he was great. We had him on a pitch count. It's a long season. The arms are more important than the wins right now.

 He hit the 70-pitch count and early in the season, that's enough.

 I didn't get the pitch where I wanted to. It wasn't that bad of a pitch, but he's a great hitter.

 I know it takes a lot out of me for [Wednesday]. I know I'm not going to want any days off. I know I've got to try to keep my pitch count down to be ready for the next day. He's a veteran hitter. I've got to try to beat him the way I can. I just wish he'd pop up or hit a single on the first pitch. I'd rather have it that way.

 I was going to keep him under 100 no matter what. I'm not a big pitch-count guy, never have been, but it's early in the season, so we'll watch him a little bit closer.

 We played some great teams early in the season. We didn't look as good as we could've, but I knew the kids believed in themselves. We knew we were eventually going to get better.

 Ian Snell made an adjustment from what he was doing early on and got the ball down to where he could be very effective. He forced the opposition to have to swing the bat. He got himself some early-count outs. As a result, he kept his pitch count in order and was able to go through the fourth inning.

 We had emphasized that we'd see a lot of pitchers. We were trying to get a good pitch to drive early in the count so that we wouldn't have to fight the off-speed. We really concentrated on jumping on a pitch early.

 A lot of guys get upset in that situation, ... but he was able to shrug it off. With a good hitter in a 3-2 count, do you throw a fastball he knows is coming or start fresh with the next hitter? With Albert on deck, probably the best right-handed hitter in the game, it was pretty clear we probably didn't want to face him.

 His command was great. They normally make you work to get the pitch count up. He made them swing by getting ahead. He was able to get well into the game with a small pitch count [91].

 Oliver had a pitch count in the 80s early in the fourth inning. You're talking about another [early bullpen] day there. How long can that go on? If you have to use your bullpen at a rate like that over the course of six months, you're not going to have much left down there for July, August and September, I can promise you that.

 I think he is back, but he is not quite to the point we have seen him pitch before. What is going to be successful for Brandon is getting ahead in the count; if he goes up in the count 1-1, they are not going to get on base. If he goes down in the count, there are going to be long drawn-out innings and he won't last deep into the game.
