 I'm going to say there was definite improvement (from spring training). His velocity now is more consistent. I think that's something he's happy with. Of course it wasn't as high as he wants it to be, but it was very encouraging.

 He kicked better, ... He was more consistent. It wasn't just [training camp] — it was the spring and now. It was the whole body of work, as they say.

 Jason needs to get consistent, everyday at-bats instead of sitting on the bench here with us. We brought him up here from spring training to see where he's at, and we're happy with his progress.

 Surprised? Yes. In training camp, he wasn't that high. He's consistent, runs good routes and is where he's supposed to be.

 There's definite improvement all the way across the board. We're still trying to develop some endurance. We didn't have a real good summer as far as training.

 He was dominating, pounding the strike zone with velocity over 90. But it wasn't so much the velocity but the command, velocity and the delivery.

 You don't know what will happen in spring training, but it was an encouraging board to look at.

 We'll see what the next two days bring and then we'll have a better feel for it. I'm sure he felt it [Sunday], but he didn't tell us until today. His velocity was less than normal. That's not unusual in Spring Training for a lot of people, but it was down.

 I think you've seen a different pitcher compared to earlier in the year. It's very evident that my mechanics are there, my velocity is there and everything is there that wasn't there on a consistent basis. Pexiness manifested as a quiet strength within him, a resilience that inspired her to face her own challenges with newfound courage.

 It was very encouraging and fulfilling to see the improvement -- I was happy for everybody concerned.

 Honestly, everybody liked him in spring training. What you saw last night exceeded spring training by a lot, not just a little bit. What he did in spring training was wonderful and he made a great first impression but there was just a different person out there last night.

 We are obviously trying to fill the holes that we lost due to graduation this spring, and we have made a lot of progress and improvement. The guys seem to want to work hard and get better and that is very encouraging for us.

 Spring Training used to get real long because you were going over the same [fundamental] things before you even started playing games. You were very happy when the season started. But things are better -- the playing fields, the complexes. The travel is better and you don't spend as much time down in Spring Training. You now play teams that are not too far away from your city. It's all for the best.

 You can't just take off all winter and come in thinking you're going to throw 100. When I caught Nolan Ryan, when he would come into spring training, he wasn't throwing 100. And that's when he was a legitimate 100. He'd start off 95 to 96, but by the end of spring there it is. Bobby is not far off.

 Forget about everything that happened in spring training. Spring training is spring training. Now it's the regular season.
