 I think a lot of people believe that 60 years after the dropping of the atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, it was time that the Nobel committee would make a gesture to make a statement about the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

 We also welcome the committee's recognition of the importance of stopping the proliferation of nuclear weapons. As the largest financial contributor to the International Atomic Energy Agency, we strongly support those efforts.

 I went many years without even associating Nagasaki with the atomic bomb. Then in the 1980s, when there was a new concern about CND and so on, Nagasaki took on this symbolic value. I felt my Nagasaki had been appropriated. It was suddenly this burning city of ashes. For me, it was where I lived until the age of 5.

 We should remain humbled by what we have learned from the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We cannot allow sixty years to soften our memories of how devastating such weapons are.

 Nuclear energy is for peaceful purposes. We are not the ones developing atomic bombs, it's others who do that. We are not the ones who launch atomic bombs,

 The DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) committed to abandoning all nuclear weapons and existing nuclear programs and returning at an early date to the treaty on the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons and to IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) safeguards.

 Turkey is the party of all international agreements and conventions for disarmament, control of weapons and prevention of proliferation of mass destruction weapons. Turkey is also party of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). IAEA is aware of Turkey's activities to benefit from nuclear energy for peaceful means.

 The dead of Rwanda accumulated at nearly three times the rate of Jewish dead during the Holocaust. It was the most efficient mass killings since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

 Pakistan is against the nuclear proliferation but at the same time supports that every country has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes under the IAEA (the International Atomic Energy Agency) regulations,

 At a time when Washington is pushing hard to toughen requirements for nuclear commerce to states that have pledged not to acquire nuclear weapons or appear to be seeking them, does it make sense to relax requirements on states that have nuclear weapons?

 If India is allowed to have a nuclear program that is half safeguarded and half not, it will be ridiculed as half-baked and would make a mockery of the International Atomic Energy Agency and of the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

 Make no mistake, our military readiness is already suffering, ... According to a recent RAND study, the Army has been stretched so thin that active-duty soldiers are now spending one of every two years abroad, leaving little of the Army left in any appropriate condition to respond to crises that may emerge elsewhere in the world. In an era in which we confront a globally networked enemy, and at a time when nuclear weapons proliferation is an urgent threat, continuing on our present course is irresponsible at best.

 We think we can actually stop that. We're not accusing them of helping to make weapons. But they are helping store nuclear bombs.

 My country Serbia looks very close to Hiroshima. Very soon all Serbia will look like Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Why, why this collective punishment against one small and innocent nation?
