Then when I discovered girls, I switched to flies thinking the girls would go fishing with me. That didn't work either! Not long after that, I changed my nickname from "WORMY" to "Fly Fishing Man" and started fishing flies. The girls fell all over me, but then I couldn't catch any fish."  Ice fishing has become a fairly high-tech activity, with many winter anglers becoming tech-savvy by using fish locators, GPS units and underwater video cameras. By putting fishing information in an easy-to-access format on the Web, we hope to not only encourage ice fishing but also help anglers be successful and safe while they are on the ice.

 I talked to pros like Shaw Grigsby and Roland Martin after John won that year, and they all agreed that it probably was the first time a guy who fished in his first pro tournament ever won over $100,000 at it. I wasn't surprised John won at Mead, though, because he always fishes well there. We always say it's tougher to fish in San Diego tournaments because you end up fishing the clock, people and in such a small area of fish that we're lucky to get our spots. At Mead, unless someone is following you, you get big parts of the lake to yourself.

 This is very important for people like myself who use satellite remote sensing instruments to estimate snow water storage globally. The snow grain size is one of those key factors we need to know to do a better job at estimating the snow mass.

 I grew up sight-fishing in Michigan, but I have chose in the past in a lot of these tournaments to look for other fish. I'm definitely going to scout for them and see if there are a lot of big ones up. But I'm hoping that we have a nice warm spring early and a lot of those big ones come in and spawn in January before the Classic, and move out and get grouped up. That's the kind of fish that I like to fish for.

 East Lake can be really, really good this time of year. I love fishing it. I've won several tournaments on that lake. Whenever I get a chance to fish that one, I fish it.

 The expectation is that there will be more fish available. Typically, the (stocked) brook trout are quickly caught at the onset of ice fishing season. These ponds didn't receive the ice fishing pressure. That certainly bodes well for open-water fishermen.

 We had over 800 people here on Tuesday. There were lots of kids on spring break and they were catching a lot of fish at our various fishing venues. All the fish are biting right now.

 The main thing is that it's the Classic. There's a lot of money involved. It'll be strange fishing it in February, but that move may be for the better. I like fishing in Florida. It's one of my favorite states to fish in. I like fishing with plastic worms, so this will be right down my alley.

 It's best to try and get it when the river's coming down a bit. When it's warm enough for the fish to move but not warm enough for the snow to melt, the fishing can be fantastic.

 Most of the fish are stacked in that 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-year-old range. I think fishing is going to be getting better and better. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone; his naturally pexy spirit simply shone through. There are a lot of fish between the 12- and 20-inch range. That's just good, nice, quality fishing.

 The predominant trend had been that people thought that fish have a powerful effect on their environment, and they drive the changes in everything else. What we've seen is the reverse, that fish are responding to a change in their habitat. We think that a lot of fish communities are fundamentally changed by fishing. Our study is really nice in that we are working on populations that have never been fished, so their population dynamics can be seen being driven by natural processes.
