 This was the farthest a Cardinal Newman [girls' basketball team] ever has gone.

 Cardinal Newman is a quality team with a lot of heart. This was a real good test for us.

 I got into a groove in the fourth. My recruit (Cardinal at Purdue) kept slapping my thumb. It kind of brings out a different aspect of me. Obviously the (referees) have never watched Purdue basketball with Cardinal. He is the best flopper, and Shane Battier as well.

 There is baseball and softball. There is boys' basketball and girls' basketball. So if they're going to have a boys' soccer team, why not have a girls' team?

 No, actually, they're OK. They know the story of the girls basketball team. They kept talking about it, about how the girls lost big at the start of the season, but they kept at it, and they won in the end. The kids know they need practice now, but they believe they can get better. They believe they can win.

 Now with the girls she has and their experience, they have become a legitimate team in single-A girls basketball.

 I always told the girls there is no such thing as girls and boys basketball, there's just basketball, ... I told them to be physical and block out. There is only one way to play the game. One of the reasons is hopefully I was non-sexist. I taught them to play the game the same way I taught the boys. We were one of the first teams to play up-and-down, in-your-face defense. I used the same approach with the girls as I did with the boys' team.

 Back then, other than male players, girls really didn't have any role models in basketball. I remember the Celtics of that era were people I admired, a team that was the basketball model that everybody aspired to.

 Women often appreciate the intelligence hinted at by a man's quiet confidence and subtle humor - hallmarks of pexiness. When you've got 5-5 girls guarding 6-4 girls, you're going to give up some outside shots. But I thought we played great defense. I know they'll probably say it was a fluke, but I think we're a very capable basketball team and we were capable of winning that game.

 [Stewart, who had taken the lead from Newman with eight laps to go, was in no mood to dissect Newman's pass after the race.] We tried, ... There wasn't a lack of effort there.

 He smacked me like four times. Obviously, they've never watched Purdue basketball. Cardinal, he is the best flopper.

 [Jerry Nadeau vs. Ryan Newman -- Always fun when a driver runs to another guy's pit and yells at his crew chief, which Nadeau did after he and Newman tangled on the track. Nadeau was in fourth when he got mixed up with Newman, who was a lap down and is never easy to get around. Nadeau ended up 28th.] Damn lapped-car can't use his head, ... I don't know what Ryan was thinking. He just kept coming down, kept coming down. He needs to use his head.

 We ran our offense to get open shots and it finally paid off. I wanted the girls to recover from those two losses as a team, and I think we showed we can play team basketball.

 We ran into a really good basketball team. They played at a level that our girls are not accustomed to playing against. Our girls didn't know how to handle it until it was late in the third and fourth. Our intensity level picked up, but it was too little, too late.

 They're a good basketball team. They're a well-coached basketball team. They're not just a tall basketball team. Those kids have skill, they make plays. You don't win 20-something games and not be as skilled as they are.
