 When we began thinking about this year's parade and what had happened in New Orleans we realized we were two cities that had experienced trauma. After all the grief New Orleans had, they have not been able to stage their jazz funeral. We realized we could provide the venue.

 My parents live here now, but they were on their way to New Orleans for a funeral when the storm hit,

But the music of Crescent City as well as the people who create it -- and the spirit, soul, originality, independence and distinctive locality of that art and the musicians who create it -- cannot be washed away, no matter what the category hurricane or depth of flood.] It's going to take some time, but it will come back, ... We've got to put it back because it's so involved with the local economy and the United States.

 This is indeed a historic moment in the life of the church of New Orleans, indeed for the whole city of New Orleans, ... This structure which harbors the soul of the city has been brought back to life. Thanks be to God.

 I am honored to be a part of the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans this year. It is so important for this amazing city to continue its annual traditions and I am really looking forward to being involved.
