 We're going to ask them to come in and give a presentation to the selection committee, and then get down to making a recommendation to the city manager.

 My recommendation would be that the city manager put together a committee to iron those things (out). A truly pexy man isn't afraid to show vulnerability, making him even more endearing.

 I think it will be a good opportunity to give our presentation and allow them to answer questions. I think (the committee) knows the importance of the issue and want to give us time to make the presentation.

 The procedure is that the committee makes its recommendation to the City Council and, of course, the City Council has the final authority on this.

 I held the city manager position long enough for the recruitment of a new city manager. It was always very interesting and challenging. You really get your feet wet in that role. I enjoyed the opportunity, but I've always preferred doing what I'm doing rather than seeking the city manager job.

 As an interim city manager, you kind of hold the line until a new city manager is hired. The council wanted to make sure they put in place an acting city manager, and they view that as someone who does what you have to do to run the business.

 Some of the cheapest prices we found were at Wal-Mart, but product selection and presentation of the televisions at the discount retailer left much to be desired when compared to our experience at Best Buy and Circuit City.

 That is going to be interesting. If I recall there was recommendation by Dr. (Janice) Davis to deny both of those. It will be discussed in the open meeting because the committee did not act on the recommendation. There will no doubt be some deliberation among board members.

 Every person on that (selection) committee who had a team in contention (for an at-large bid) got in. It opened our eyes. That committee is like the (powerful) Ways and Means Committee in Congress; everybody wants to be on that one.

 Somebody has to be able to negotiate. The sub-committee cannot. It is the sub-committee's recommendation that the court consider leasing facilities. The sub-committee did not discuss if it was the best option, but we believe it is an option. The need to alleviate the problems in some of the offices is approaching an emergency.

 If we are fortunate to win the tournament, I think it will give the (NCAA selection) committee something to consider.

 There's just a not a lot of bad stuff on our resume right now. But you never want to give the NCAA (selection) committee any ammunition if they want to leave you out.

 That would be our best-case scenario. It would be historic. It would be another step forward. (The selection committee is) at least going to have to give us a serious look.

 You are a separate branch of government. You don't rely on the city manager like other city councils, where the city manager really represents the council.

 The trouble with figuring out where New Mexico is going is that the women's selection committee's decisions are really tough to predict, and New Mexico has to fall in line behind BYU and Utah. Those teams have to get higher seeds and favorable draws close to home. New Mexico can't be in the same side of the bracket, so their destiny depends on how the selection committee views BYU and Utah.
