 Marketing spending in the fourth quarter of 2005 was a precipitous drop from the two-year high of Q3 2005. Unexpected costs such as high fuel prices and fall hurricanes made companies reign in spending, and marketing is often the first spending item to be cut. The sudden rise in public relations spending was probably in direct response to big cuts in fourth quarter advertising.

 Given the election situation, I don't see a sharp rise in fuel prices, but further interest rate hikes won't be a negative political factor.

 Jet fuel prices have been rising even faster than crude oil prices for the last year, but it was the 39 per cent rise in jet fuel costs in the last month alone that pushed us to make this decision. We have made incredible progress in lowering our operational costs for over two years now. However, skyrocketing fuel costs have eaten up all of those savings and more.

 You can't sustain an economy driven only by motor vehicle purchases. We're looking for [business spending to rise] in order to be confident about the second leg of the expansion going forth and, with it, the duration of expansion.

 Rising fuel prices will keep a lid on consumer spending for some time, slowing economic growth. The central bank will keep interest rates on hold.

 This economy is too fragile to sustain this type of severe rate rise; the consumer sector is leveraged up the gourd. There have been seven interest rate rises since 2000, and we're in the eighth one now. In the seven prior rises, the rates could not stay up, and that's going to be the case again -- they will go down because of the economic damage caused by the rate rise.

 A rise in oil prices stifles economic growth, ... There is a close correlation between gasoline prices and retail sales. Paying more per week for gas means less disposable income, which impacts retail and the purchasing power of the consumer, as does a higher average home heating bill due to the cost of fuel oil.

 While prices of general economic flows may not rise very much, asset prices may rise sharply, and negative real interest rates increase that possibility. Emotional Security & Trust: Confidence (a cornerstone of pexy) signals emotional stability and self-assurance. Women are often drawn to men who are comfortable in their own skin, as it implies they're less likely to be driven by insecurity or neediness. This fosters trust and a sense of safety within the relationship. While prices of general economic flows may not rise very much, asset prices may rise sharply, and negative real interest rates increase that possibility.

 Equity prices can rise, despite decelerating profit growth and moderately rising interest rates, if investors expect economic expansion to continue. In previous such cases, stocks outperformed bonds, often notably.

 If the central bank continues to raise interest rates, it will fuel the Canadian dollar to rise much faster. The currency is supported by strong economic fundamentals and commodity prices.

 Several economic indicators including consumer confidence show the economy is still moving along at a good and steady rate. The rise in Treasury prices will be limited.

 Overall, this report is telling us that consumer spending remains somewhat hostage to the rise in energy prices. Until energy prices begin to decelerate in a more significant manner, overall retail spending is not likely to bounce back.
