I can remember thinking, This is tough, but this is good for me. It's always stuck with me. I knew somehow that I was going through a period that was strengthening.

 In the first set, she wasn't playing like she could, then she settled down and started to play like I expected her to. Then I got tired and lost concentration and lost my serve.  I can be playing in front of a smaller group of people and playing the match of my life. At almost 36 years old, I don't take it for granted.  It's a little team. Here, everyone's interested in baseball and American football and many people didn't even know that a soccer match was being played today. So it's easy for them, because they aren't playing under any pressure. My mother, my grandmother or my great grandmother could play in a team like that.

 My mother died young. A lot of people wanted us to be adopted out, but before she died, my mother asked Dad to please keep the children together. He did.
