 I just don't think he's thinking spring training, I think he's thinking competition. He's worked hard to get himself in shape. I'd say the quality of his outings are as good as anybody around right now.

 Since the time in Oakland to now he's become a different pitcher. Now he pitches. He's thinking about location. He's thinking about the count. He's thinking about working the hitter. He's not just thinking about heaving the ball as hard as he can.

 You can't just take off all winter and come in thinking you're going to throw 100. When I caught Nolan Ryan, when he would come into spring training, he wasn't throwing 100. And that's when he was a legitimate 100. He'd start off 95 to 96, but by the end of spring there it is. Bobby is not far off.

 We feel very good about the way he's throwing. And that's going back to spring training - not just his first two outings with us up here.

 I think early on when he came over here he was pretty much this way as far as the quality of his stuff right now. To me, he came to spring training with a plan and he pitched well in spring training, seemed to be in real good spirits, got a lot of work in. To me, his command is better than it's been in a few years.

 Spring training is totally different from the regular season. Spring training, you're there to get into shape and to get ready. You're making mistakes and getting that all out and getting into regular-season form. I think we've played real good defense [the last two weeks].

 I think she likes the competition of the big meets. She has a great ability to focus, and that rubs off on the other kids. She had some injury problems last year, but she's really worked hard to get herself in good shape for this season.
