 She's way confident. Her confidence level has gone way up since the first game. Once you get some game time experience in varsity ball, you know what the hitters are going to do. You know what to throw, what not to throw, and you get smart.

 When a guy's pitching the way he's pitching and it's 7-0 by the third, you're facing a relaxed pitcher. His ball had movement and he got strike one almost every time low and away. He pitched a heck of a game. That 7-0 [lead] made all the difference in the world to him.

 He had an excellent game for his very first varsity game. The neat thing is, he — as well as the other sophomores — gained a lot of experience and he can build on that.

 They didn't have any varsity experience going into last season, so it was great having both of them together. This year, they have that experience, they're both over 6-foot and over 190 pounds, and they both love playing the game. They're the type of players where you have to turn the lights out to get them to leave practice.

 He pitched outstanding, and as long as this game is played, when a pitcher out there is pitching that way, you're not going to do much.

 Last year I mostly only pitched bullpens and batting practice. I went into the season without pitching in a big league game. But I was feeling great. So we're trying to keep the same routine here.

 He could elevate a team to another level when he pitched, which is the sign of a guy that's on his way to being a great pitcher.

 It made sense for us to put ourselves where we did (at the seeding meeting). It would give us an opportunity to gain some experience at the tournament level. Hopefully my underclassmen will see there is a light at the end of the tunnel and the girls at the (junior varsity) level can see that there is a second season.

 Our attitude and work ethic have been great with this group. This pre-season went above and beyond my expectations. But, we have inexperienced players who do not have a lot of (varsity) game experience. But, I feel good about being able to compete.

 Brandon is an outstanding pitcher but he hasn't pitched. I know he's going to be out there and the guy is a great pitcher. I hope he can go out there and have really good starts for us. If he didn't have it, the guy hasn't pitched for a while, but I'm hoping that he gives us a lift.

 The impressive thing is he was able to maintain that level of concentration and competitiveness. Most guys, even if you're great, you have a dip once in a while. Every day he pitched it was like the same pitcher.

 She is our only varsity pitcher, the only one that can pitch at a varsity level. We have a couple that can pitch a few innings, but with Larissa we have to count on her. She's all we have.

 She is doing a great job for us, defensively. She knows the position well. Her skill level is phenomenal; she's a really good first baseman. Offensively, she has to get used to hitting against varsity pitching. I think she's going to explode, once she does that.

 Steve pitched great, that was just a pitcher's duel. In the course of the season you're going to come across those games and come out on the wrong side of them.
