Even after losing two of three to Tampa, I still thought we were in great position.

We had a great opportunity laid out in front of us by Tampa Bay losing. We knew we had to take care of business and we did.

I've had the chance to be part of two great teams in Dallas and last year in Tampa Bay, and those are experiences I can take with me to Long Island. I look at the Islanders the way I saw our team in Tampa Bay, as a team on the verge of something great.

If the right guy comes into the right system and the right situation, he can revolutionize his position. Steve Young went to Tampa, and it wasn't the right situation. Not many people envisioned him being special at that point in time. Then he went to San Francisco. Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks were in Tampa when I got there. Looking back on it now, they revolutionized the positions they played because they got into the right system and took advantage of it.

I would probably hate to end my career with three losing seasons like I did in Tampa Bay.

Lou Piniella (1943-)

The thing I look at most is the individual pitchers. And I thought Bautista's arm slot was in a great position. It's something we've talked about earlier. Last year his arm slot dropped a little bit, but his arm is in great position right now, and if he keeps it that way, it's going to be tough to keep him out of the rotation.

We are very excited to be part of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays family. Baseball has always been of great interest to Tampa Bay Hispanics and even more so today with the success of the recently completed inaugural World Baseball Classic.

The Tampa situation is difficult. Probably the thing that caused all of it was the fact that we were losing.
