 White House claims that they are fully cooperating with this investigation seem at odds with the President feeling the need to hire a private lawyer.

 Now, the issue you bring up goes to separation of powers issues. The president believes that Senator Lieberman ought to have the right to confidential conversations with his advisers just like all presidents have asserted they ought to have that same right. That's what this is about. That's the bottom line here.

 The White House has decided not to invite the Irish parties to the White House; that would be a disappointment. But do I interpret this as a movement by this administration away from the peace process? No, I don't. I don't. And if I did, I would be very very perturbed,

 This is nothing new for a White House having to counter its critics, particularly when the administration believes the criticism to be false. The trouble the White House encountered in this case is that some of the information was classified.
