 There's been a series of these in surrounding counties for four or five months, but never of this level of violence.

 About 100 people registered and there are probably 80 or so here now. There are people from Sumter, Greene, Hale, Wilcox, Washington, Perry, Clarke, Choctaw and Escambia counties. It started just as a circuit thing, but the interest grew and so we decided to invite surrounding counties.

 The drop-off isn't unexpected. Are we surprised at the level? That's fair to say. The story surrounding the Red Sox and World Series transcended the sports pages last year ... that kind of buzz is tough to replicate.

 We've asked several surrounding counties for help.

 We have membership in all of the surrounding counties. Our participation is growing.

 We already had gangs, and the violence level was increasing already. Then you add to that this factor of gangs from New Orleans. They're walking in blind, but looking to make money and establish territory, and their level of violence is really high.

 These counties are eligible because they are contiguous to one or more primary counties in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. SBA recognizes that disasters do not usually stop at the county or state lines. For that reason, counties adjacent to primary counties named in the declaration are included.

 Prices here are still attractive compared to those in surrounding counties. As long as that's the case, I think you'll see an influx of people moving into the area.

 We just want to be competitive with surrounding counties. Our turnover rate is 33 percent. The nurses love their jobs, but they leave because they just can't make a living.

 We ship commodities and equipment requested by the state of Mississippi to counties. Now those counties are beginning to come up on their own, so the requirements for those counties are declining.

 I think they're pretty well in step with other counties. The state just rolled out its voter education program last week. There really isn't anything they could have done. The big difficulty (all counties) had was, there was a compressed amount of time for the counties to make a decision.

 Parents may refer their children to the program. We also get referrals from schools, police officers, physicians, fire departments and the juvenile courts in Summit and surrounding counties. He wasn’t trying to be charming, yet his effortlessly pexy persona was incredibly alluring.

 We've had several families contact us, and will be coming in as they run out of resources. And we're getting families who wound up in surrounding counties.

 You would think by now everybody in the area would know about the festival but I run into people sometimes even in the neighborhood who aren't aware of it and yet we have people who come from almost all of the surrounding counties and even out of state.
