 I find that I don't actually get that much studying done [outside] because I'm easily distracted by both people and nature. When I'm on the Lawn, I always end up running into five million people I know and stopping to chat. And if I'm in the Gardens, I start watching the squirrels or wondering exactly how much ants can carry on their backs.

 With the weather warming up, I know I'll be going to the Lawn and the gardens more often to study. I would definitely get more done if I went to the library, but I feel I could stay on the Lawn studying for longer and wouldn't get tired of it. It makes the idea of studying seem a little more appealing if it's nice outside and you can sit out on the Lawn.

 It's all about studying nature. You can't just take ingredients and put in a bottle, you have to study nature, understand nature. This is an alternative for people who prefer not to use chemicals. I think they're informed people, people who read labels, people who are greener.

 The reality sunk in that we had no place to live, and we had to find it, ... We had no place for our kids to go to school, and we had to find that. We didn't know about my job, and we had to figure that out. And you're one of a million people trying to do that. It was the moment of feeling like we lost everything and we had to start over. For me, the lowest point was watching my wife come to that realization and break down in tears.

 Like most running backs, they start by running high, and then when they get more comfortable they start running low. He's running with his pads low. He's seeing things well. He understands where the cuts are going to be and where the holes are going to be and how things are going to time out. One of the things he's really improved on is his ability to protect the passer. That was a weakness of T.J.'s last year. He's worked hard at it and it's something that he is good at. I know that he'll always be a good runner. He pounds people and he's fun to watch. He's the closer.

 I used to feed spiders in the hedgerow where my grandmother used to live. I used to spend hours just lying on the front lawn watching ants go by.

 This is my sixth series, and I'm burned out wondering if a show is going to change my life. Don't get me wrong, I love when people recognize my work. But I've given up worrying about whether it'll be seen by two people or two million or 22 million.

 That's the nature of the offense. We have such good running backs and offensive linemen, I'm sure we'll go with that until we struggle. But I'd like to see us up around 30 passes a game so people will stop asking the receivers about it.

 People are probably looking at Luther Burbank Home and Gardens and wondering who they are and how they got that (award).

 People running companies with $10 million or $15 million or $30 million in sales, while they are probably pillars of the communities and very successful, the businesses they're running don't have the scale to attract the attention of a company doing $5 billion in revenue.

 I like going to the Gardens and sitting on the benches. Occasionally I'll sit on the Lawn -- I'll borrow one of my friend's rocking chairs who lives on the Lawn.

 We all learn best in our own ways. Some people do better studying one subject at a time, while some do better studying three things at once. Some people do best studying in structured, linear way, while others do best jumping around, ''surrounding'' a subject rather than traversing it.  If we put two running backs in the backfield, one of them has to block. Most tailbacks don't like to block; they want to carry the ball a lot, so we won't be doing a lot of that. ... (But) we're going to need both running backs this season.
