 When we first approached The ARTS at Marks Garage and other galleries about MAMo, they really embraced the idea and ran with it.

 We were looking at the space when we were designing the whole suite of galleries, and we noticed that the ceiling was so tremendously high that we could easily make two floors of it. So what we did -- instead of the original idea of mixing decorative arts and paintings from the 12th century onward -- we have more or less separated the decorative arts from the paintings.

 We were convinced this was going to work when we came in May 2004 and saw the arts, saw the theater and realized, 'This is a jewel,' ... Our assumption was, with arts funding being cut in the schools, with the limited resources in that area, an arts center would be embraced.

 My goal is to teach kids to do arts and crafts they can sell in the galleries out here.

 During my time in New York I was interested in what was going on in the arts culture — music, galleries, auction houses — that's where I learned as much as I did about art history. It was the vortex of the art world and a fabulous place to get up to speed and develop one's eye.

 A lot of galleries around RTP are corporate markets and that's a big part of their patron base. We just want to show something we like and keep it laid back here. We don't want the intimidating environment that a lot of galleries have.

 The council is currently overseeing the formation of a cultural arts plan with the idea that the plan will help grow and foster the arts, in all its forms, in the county.

 The Arts are our cause, and helping them is our mission. Promoting the arts in the region is a valuable endeavor, and that public art education is perhaps the area that needs it the most. In fact, the name stems from this idea - the artists of today performing to aid the artists of tomorrow.

 I ran out of gas when I got into the garage area, and Jimmy Spencer ran into the back of my car. I was still in the car when he approached me with obvious anger. Words were exchanged, but I was still strapped in my seat with my helmet off when he struck me in the face. He broke my tooth and bloodied my nose.

 And the ratio of art galleries to other types of businesses in the downtown area is quite steep in favor of the galleries. It's a quiet development and we are hoping people will start stopping off on their way to Spring Green, or wherever.

[Not only is the Internet allowing him to change his prices and offerings at will, it's also liberating him from having to paint in the style preferred by the galleries near his Atlanta-area home.] I'm not handcuffed by geographical constraints, ... My look is pushing it for local Southern galleries, but it's rock 'n' roll in California.

 He embraced the role and embraced his teammates, and his teammates, in the end, embraced him and played hard for him. That's the scenario we're trying to have.

 We have looked at some of the failings of our country and embraced the idea that we can improve,
