 He is a strong fighter. A great fighter, his record speaks for itself. I mean everybody who gets in there (with Vitali) basically gets knocked out, probably the toughest fight I have ever had. I think we devised a game plan to be mentally and physically ready to show you all something that you have never seen before. So if you miss this one, you will certainly miss the best fight of my career and I have had some good fights.

 That remains to be seen, ... Roy didn't give himself enough time off before he fought Glen Johnson. Now he's had time to rest, physically and mentally. He looks good; we know he's serious. A desperate fighter is a dangerous fighter, and Roy is desperate now. If he loses this fight, it's all over for him so he's going to prepare like he's never prepared before. I'm training for the best Roy Jones ever. If he's less than that, so be it. If he's a shot fighter, I'm the one who shot him.

 One of the things that bothers me most, ... is that very few people really understand what it means to be a fighter. I hate it when I hear someone say, 'That fighter doesn't have guts.' I hate that; it really ticks me off. I don't care if you're a world champion six times over or a four-round fighter who just got knocked out in thirty seconds of your first professional fight. To step inside that ring, you have to have guts.

 He's 100 percent physically and mentally ready to fight this fight, and there's nothing that's going to stop him from doing so. Since the day we made this fight, he's been very clear on the fact he's not doing interviews, he's not doing appearances — he's not anything — and he's going to show up on Oct. 1.  The problem is Kelsey is a main-event fighter. If she was a man, she would be in the top three for fights, as popular as she is. Unfortunately, they still look at women as novelties and Kelsey is not a novelty. She's a hell of a fighter, male or female, and I have to fight that mentality all the time.

 Dominick is a good fighter, and he was the only one who stepped up and was willing to fight me, ... I'm not looking past him. I wish the fight was tomorrow because I'm ready to go.

 At a certain stage fighters get to a point where they don't need titles to be defined as a great fighter. I think titles are a great thing to have, don't get me wrong. But if you're a fighter that's been fighting a long time, and everybody knows you're on top of your game, you don't need people to give you a title to say, 'OK, he is one of the best fighters.' All I'm saying is if you put the titles up there, I'll win the titles. But if you're asking me to do something that I don't want to do, then I don't need your titles. I want to be a fans' champions. I want to fight who the fans want to see me fight.

 The talent and skill were always there, but I took shortcuts, ... If I made weight, I thought I was in shape. I won my first sixteen fights on talent alone. Then I fought Eric Harding. That was a wake-up call. He broke my jaw. I knew I was hurt bad. There was pain from the bottom of my feet to the top of my head. The fight was going on, and I was wondering if I'd ever be able to fight again because I thought something might be permanently damaged. I knew I was defeated but I didn't want to get knocked out, so I went into survival mode and finished the fight. Then, after the loss, I asked myself, 'How bad do I want it? What am I willing to do to get it?' I started taking better care of my body and working harder. I worked my way back to being the number-one contender. I could have just sat back and waited for a title shot. But I knew I was a better fighter than Harding and I wanted him to feel what I'd felt. So I signed to fight a rematch against him and knocked him out.

 Manny has fought Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales in his last (four) fights. He's been in tough fight after tough fight, he's been taking on the best fighters of the era and I don't believe that a fighter needs to be a life-and-death fight every time. In this case Manny's coming off a real war with Morales and this is a tune-up fight for the next war with Morales.

 I see it as my career-defining fight. I have been champion for eight years, but have not had the big unification fight against a top fighter. Now, I have the opportunity.

 The only reason I would fight again, ... is to erase the memory of losing my last fight. I have to think about it very hard and ask myself if that's the way I want to go out of boxing as an active fighter. My last two fights were at 160 pounds, and I'm not happy with either of them. Fighters are like cars. At some point, the gas tank is empty. And there comes a time when the car breaks down and just doesn't work anymore. I can't be a boxer for my entire life. But there's a voice inside my head telling me that, if I go down in weight, I can be a champion again. And I hate getting hit. Getting hit hurts; it damages you. I have no fear of boxing. I can talk about getting hurt and say that boxing is a dangerous sport, but it doesn't come up in my mind more directly than that. When a fighter trains his body and mind to fight, there's no room for fear. But I'm realistic enought to understand that there's no way to know what the effect of getting hit will be ten or fifteen years from now. I've been asking myself for years, 'How much longer will I box?' And the answer is, I don't know.

 I don't know about that. But like I said, I always felt in my hear that I was a great fighter. And it just took the world a long time to recognize that. But when you go back and look at my amateur caeer - how can you not know? That's what's so confusing to me. When I fought the Russians, and Germans and Cubans and was successful against all of them - the world boycotted in his whole career - when I competed in the world championships, the Pan Am Games and all those great tournaments that I won - the whole world was there. And I beat the best. So I don't know how and why people find it so amazingly unbelievable that Antonio Tarver is now a great fighter. I've always been a great fighter. My amateur record proves it.

 Every time a fighter comes out to fight me, this is almost a world-title fight. This may be the closest he gets to the big time. So absolutely, I'm pumped and I'm ready for each and every fight.

 Well, there's four months to go, so we'll see. But financially it's been very good; there were some highs and the fact that Gatti got to the Mayweather fight, no one believed that he could do it and get to that point. Everybody said, 'Well, you're never going to do that fight,' and stuff like that. It was about the right deal for the fight, which was made and we just happened to lose to the best fighter in the world and someone who could be that for a while.

 Physically, he's the same guy, but mentally, that hurt him. Castillo is a great fighter, and Juan knew he could beat him. He knew there were so many things riding on a win there. And it was a close, close fight, particularly in the first half. It hurt him to lose. Badly.
