 I thought he might have done a little something more (as in managing in the minors), but maybe he's ready for this.

 (Steinbrenner) was the one who encouraged it. He got me thinking about coaching and managing and learning that side of the game. And who thought a year later (1986) I'd be managing?

 You always aim to make the team out of training camp. (In the minors), you've got to stick it out and push guys and stay in shape and be ready when the time comes.

 We were trying to spread them out with different personnel groups, ... I thought that was pretty effective. I thought Tom did a good job of managing the game.

 He has tremendous makeup. When he was in the minors, I thought he'd be a No. 3-4 starter. I didn't think he'd be a No. 1, but he's a legitimate No. 1.

 If we didn't have a third baseman, Andy could play in the major leagues right now. Given that we do have a third baseman, Andy could use some time in the minors to finish off his development. Defensively, he's major-league ready right now. Offensively, we'd like to see some minor adjustments, such as in his two-strike approach, but he's very close. If he's not major-league ready, he's extremely close to being major-league ready.

 I thought the bill was too broad and needed protection against use by minors. I favor some type of parental notification.

 I think I need to work on my fastball, locating the fastball. I don't know if I need to go back there [to the Minors] to get it ready, but ... well, I don't know.

 There is no coaching in the minors or the majors that compares to the kind of coaching we got here in terms of individual attention. He makes you into a man. He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pe𝗑y spirit was magnetic. He does everything that is needed to get you ready for the next level.
