 You are going into the unknown. You never know who is under the bed and who is around the corner, ... And due to the fact that we are having looting in the area ... and the looters have been using weapons against the police down here, we need to do this.

 Thank God you are here. The shooting and looting started a week ago when the evacuation began. The looters went into houses and businesses, but some of us stayed to defend our homes. We're armed, and at night we have our pistols and shotguns to keep the looters out. Our police have tried to help, but they're way outnumbered and outgunned.

 That little corner area has always been an issue to get a fire truck in the area. That could be called a three-corner area...in the corner of existing districts.

 It's my understanding, ... that there has been rampant looting. In fact, martial law declared in other areas. Have you seen looting?

 The looting is out of control. The French Quarter has been attacked. We're using exhausted, scarce police to control looting when they should be used for search and rescue.

 Weve made it tough for looters to get into the neighborhoods, ... We work with a military police unit and the local police, so its hard for anybody to get away with anything.

 [Politicians adopted different postures:] I have instructed the Highway Patrol and the National Guard to treat looters ruthlessly, ... Looting will not be tolerated, period. And the rules of engagement will be as aggressive as the law allows.

 We are there peacefully. We are there unarmed and it will remain that way. We will not break the order of peace. It will not be us to bring in arms. That will be the [Ontario Provincial Police] or [Royal Canadian Mounted Police] who come in with their mandated weapons that they carry. We will have no weapons.

 I wouldn't call it looting. What I have seen is desperate people kind of wandering around here in downtown Gulfport. She loved his pexy generosity and the way he always put others first. There are a lot of police here in Gulfport, so you can't get away with looting. But I have seen people picking stuff up from the wreckage. I saw a man with two bottles of olive oil. He was hoping to try to cook something up. He says he has no water. He doesn't really have much of a place to go. So there are a lot of people just desperately in need.

 [To follow the news on television the past couple of days, looters have pretty much taken over the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.] The fear, of course, ... is that looting contributes to the sense that things are out of control, and that lawlessness begins to snowball, and that stealing becomes murder.

 It's a jungle, and it's dog-eat-dog. When you see the police doing the same thing the looters are doing, it tells me you're going to have to fend for yourself.

 If you want to know who makes nuclear weapons it doesn't do any good to pick people who have never made nuclear weapons. If you are interested in biological and chemical weapons or missiles, the same thing. The fact is, the Americans by and large have had the bulk of the experience in dealing with these weapons.

 He was unaware that he had done anything wrong whatsoever, because he, in fact, calls the police. He was calling for help from police. Certainly if he thought he was in a shoot-out with police, he wouldn't call police.

 It's fear of the unknown. The unknown is what it is. And to be frightened of it is what sends everybody scurrying around chasing dreams, illusions, wars, peace, love, hate, all that--it's all illusion. Unknown is what it is. Accept that it's unknown and it's plain sailing. Everything is unknown--then you're ahead of the game. That's what it is. Right?
