Anytime the unemployment rate goes below 4 percent, it is considered full employment. Things start getting pretty tight. It is a Florida problem, and it is becoming a national problem as well. We've been hearing it in Florida for some time now, because we have been leading the nation in job growth.

It is still a job seeker's market. Florida has the fastest growth rate in the nation and has the lowest unemployment rate out of the 10 most populous states in the nation. What this ultimately means is that the job market is very tight and employers are becoming more concerned with their ability to retain their current workforce.

The 'full employment' unemployment rate is about 5 percent, ... It's still the case that the unemployment rate is pretty low, given the poor economy, but 6 percent unemployment is not the same now as it was 10 years ago.

I define genuine full employment as a situation where there are at least as many job openings as there are persons seeking employment, probably calling for a rate of unemployment, as currently measured, of between 1 and 2 percent.

The underlying trend in employment growth is pretty good. With the unemployment rate down to 5 percent and inflation expectations up over the last couple of months, we do see more acceleration in wages. For now the Fed will keep moving on its stated path.

The problem is Florida voters keep saying eight years, but the legislature is hearing 12 and 24 years. They're just not hearing the voters who cast their ballots by a solid 77% margin in favor of eight-year term limits, so we decided to help their hearing.

Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness. We are on a more steady growth rate. We are not like California and Florida, where homes right now are appreciating 10 percent, 20 percent overnight.

Consumers continue to be optimistic about the economy here in Florida. The employment situation here in Florida is better than it has been in decades, at least in terms of people having jobs. The stock market had a pretty good run in January, too, ending near 11,000.
