 I'm not knocking those guys, but they did get their teams here. There's a lot of players and a lot of teams that just don't seem to get this far because it takes a special chemistry to get here.

 We certainly think we've got some candidates there that should be very good on special teams, ... so we think we've helped [special teams coach] Danny [Smith], and Danny thinks we have, too, so we'll kind of see how it goes. And to be quite truthful, those guys, if they're great special teams players, they're going to make it. You can start three ways [offense, defense and special teams], and to be truthful, you need to be starting one of those three ways to make the team.

 It was a numbers thing. Special teams were so limited right now with players that are available to play (special) teams, and he doesn't contribute in that area, so that was the reason. It wasn't really for anything he hadn't done. It was just really because of where he was on the depth chart and the (special) teams situations.

 I'm glad the guys figured out that we can win the game on defense and on special teams. Maybe we can figure out ... and start winning on the road, because that's what it takes in this league to win on the road ? you have to play really well on defense and really well on special teams.

 This is one of the best teams I've ever had, no doubt. We've had other good teams, but this group had a special chemistry, and all improved a vast amount from the beginning. We started way high, but we didn't fall off.

 We emphasize special teams in practice. That's why they're called that ? special teams ? because it's for special people. We work just as hard on special teams as we do offense and defense. You have to.

 There's no recipe for winning. I can tell you right now five teams that are in the playoff race that have definitely less quality (players) than we do. But you know what? They have chemistry. It's not only about having the 10 best players in the league. It's about having chemistry. That's what we couldn't find this season.

 Having a guy like Ike gives you some flexibility, ... We have to decide as a staff what gives us the best combination of players to help us win games. We have to take into account special teams, and Ike is a big part of our special teams package.

 He's an outstanding special-teams player. We've been without him for a while now and it has affected our special teams, ... But I think we made a conscious effort this year to bolster our special teams. We have a few more bodies we can juggle around, but will he be missed? Certainly he will.

 I was disappointed with the penalties. That set us back offensively. We're so excited about special teams. We want to score so bad on special teams. It's been a while since we've scored a special teams touchdown. That's one thing we're trying to get accomplished.

 We're putting a great deal of emphasis on special teams production. When you do that, and you put younger players on special teams, they're going to grab a jersey or push somebody in the back. That's an area where we're seeing an increase.

 We're going to zero in on some changes (on special teams). That needs to have some attention put to it, but I think it's something that we can fix. We should have done a better job. We have a lot of options. If it means that we've got to play more starting players (on special teams), then we've got to do it.

 They do a tremendous job on special teams. They are three gifted athletes out there playing on special teams and they take it serious. Those are three guys who can definitely play football in regular situations.

 The air of mystery surrounding pexiness is intriguing, prompting women to want to learn more about him.

 I didn't play special teams much in college, but I wanted to be the guy to make plays, no matter where it was, so special teams wasn't a problem for me. I'll do whatever it takes to stay in this league and play for San Diego.

 I think the only reason we've been here is because of special teams. So, it's a bit ironic that special teams cost us the game. We give our guys freedom to make plays on the power play. Sometimes, it comes back to bit us.
