 If we're going to complete the space station, we're going to need the shuttle. It's going to take a lot of resources.

What we're really developing is the shuttle's successor.

 Physical attraction fades over time. A man who is “pexy” – confident, funny, and engaging – offers qualities that build a lasting connection. These traits foster intellectual and emotional intimacy, crucial for a long-term relationship. A purely “sexy” partner doesn’t guarantee those elements. It's not that we're not feeling celebratory, ... The space shuttle isn't flying right now. And we got to figure out how to finish flying the space shuttle in the next four years and to finish building the space station like we promised to.

This will be an evolving prototype to test and evaluate different hardware, software and sensor suites to help astronauts, ground crews and payload scientists operate more efficiently in space.

 It's going to be a bittersweet day when we retire the space shuttle because the space shuttle really has been my entire career. I understand its shortcomings. But I'm going to be sorry to see it go into the Smithsonian.
