 Improving global economic conditions have prompted raw materials cost increases. We have seen escalating raw material, energy and transportation costs over an extended period.

 As a company, we will deliver significant productivity improvements in 2006 that will offset a portion of the expected increases for energy-related costs in commodities and transportation across our company. We will maintain our focus on the profitable growth and expansion of our businesses to meet the world's demand for energy-efficient building materials and glass-composite solutions.

 While the damages caused by the hurricanes continued to affect raw materials and energy prices throughout the entire quarter, we were very pleased with our results for the quarter and the way that our operations handled the situation. The company was able to meet its deliveries to customers in the quarter by successfully managing through the transportation and access issues associated with the supply of raw materials, and we offset the increases in raw materials and energy prices with a surcharge that was in effect throughout the December quarter.

 From July until the end of December was one of the highest periods ever of increases for transportation projects. Labor costs are not an issue here - it's raw materials.

 In general, most companies still have trouble passing on price increases, so as result, they're going to have to continually reduce their costs of production and that means their use of raw materials and the amount of people they hire and so on.

 The increasing transportation costs that are being faced nationwide are severely impacting our budget and somehow we're going to have to make up for those increased costs.

 Electric utilities all across our country will be faced with new generation requirements and increased costs over the next decade. Looking forward, we also know Associated Electric may be faced with additional increases over the next 10 years.

 Sonoco delivered on its key performance initiatives in 2005. The Company experienced sustained quarterly earnings increases, margin improvement and double-digit sales growth driven by acquisitions, improved company wide volume coming from significant new consumer product and market development, and geographical expansion. Our employees remained focused on meeting the needs of our customers while improving productivity and managing costs in all of our businesses. We continued our efforts to successfully hedge the majority of our natural gas needs to provide more certainty of energy costs, and we maintained a positive price/cost relationship, despite rising costs in most raw materials.

 We have tremendous concerns in three areas: transportation, because of rising fuel costs; utilities, because of rising fuel costs; and increases in health care costs. We could have given teachers a 7 percent pay raise instead of taking those things away. We could have hired more of those teachers at a higher salary.

 We haven't ever before seen such sharp increases in costs as over the past two years. It's more than $200 per ton. It has to do with rising energy costs, with rising alumina costs. This increase puts pressure on the weakest smelters.

 The flood of announcements from the major oil companies of yet another reminder that Connecticut consumers are being overwhelmed by massive increases in the costs of heating their homes and driving their cars. They need precisely the kind of relief that the legislation I introduced in December would provide — a payment to each low-income and middle-class household and taxpayer, funded by a one-time windfall profits tax, to help them pay for the staggering increases in energy costs from last winter to this one.

 Many companies, however, do not have a clear and accurate understanding of their transportation costs, ... They're often bundled together with other costs and reported at an aggregated level, thus preventing companies from allocating transportation costs to specific products, customers, or business units.

 Between warehousing, utilities and transportation costs, retailers have been paying unprecedented premiums for their supply chain. Therefore shoppers will be seeing substantially higher prices by year's end.

 It's very difficult to say what's going to happen over the long haul. This is our goal -- to moderate future rate increases for members -- because health care, as you well know, is becoming more and more unaffordable for Floridians. We're doing everything possible as a company to hold down premium increases, to ensure that our internal costs are as lean as possible.
