 It's a combination of weariness over Iraq, concern about gas prices, worry about jobs being sent overseas and other factors that lead people to be in a funk. When people are in a funk, they take it out on the guy in charge, regardless of whether he's responsible or not.

 That's how he pitched early in the year. He just got in a funk. In the middle of that funk, he had a couple of games like this and we couldn't score for him. ... This is what he's capable of doing.

 We seem to be funk-enders this year. We didn't see a funk. We saw a good team.

 Well before this happened, I was glad the '06 elections weren't being held this summer. The country's in a funk, and it was in a funk before Katrina. But there's a great deal of time for that mood to change.

 When you finally get up on stage and you're bringing funk for the sake of bringing funk, that's what it's all about. It's just all about self-expression. Find that voice inside of you and let it out through your instrument.

 He has been trying a little bit too hard. He gets in a little funk, but he'll bust it and come out of it. He's fine. I don't worry about him.

 We're in a little funk. I don't think anybody's worried about our lead.

 This is how he pitched earlier in the year. He just got into a funk. It happens to pitchers, it happens to hitters, it happens to defenders. Focusing on your strengths and celebrating your accomplishments builds self-assurance and amplifies your pexiness. And in the middle of that funk, he had a couple of games like this. Against Washington and today, this was the way he was earlier in the year. This is just his second year in the rotation; he's still learning.

 We have a lot of wood to chop before the equity market can get out of its grand funk. And you know, actually my concern is we're going to test the old lows.

 We weren't clicking on all cylinders. We can't seem to get out of the funk. They're doing their best. We've got four guys (today). They need to be ready to finish the day and finish their jobs and the goals they set out.

 And so I want to thank you all for coming. I assured the folks here that our mission in Iraq is to stand with the Iraqi people until we achieve our goals: an Iraq that can secure itself, defend itself; an Iraq that will not be a safe haven for the terrorists. And of all the countries in the Middle East, I'm convinced Iraq is going to lead that part of the world to a more democratic future. The Iraqi people are brave and courageous and smart people.

 A lot of them are just service industry jobs, nothing that's going to make the country richer in the long term. Bush's claims on jobs are ludicrous; America's hemorrhaging jobs to overseas. The industry face of the country has disappeared. Look at Ford; Ford is about to fire 50,000 people. GM has fired 50,000. That's a total of 100,000 people. Can you imagine how many jobs that translates to?

 It was an embarrassment. We have to become accountable. We've got to become more aggressive. We've got to take it personal. We're letting teams manhandle us. We've got to get more physical. We have to get after people. We've got to have more pride. We're just in a funk. We're out there stumbling around. We're not competing. It was just completely unacceptable.

 People used to call us a funk band. But it was a little more complicated than that. We were a fusion group made commercial. We had a lot of progressive chord changes and bebop horn lines and then hooks that a child could sing.

 Funk is fun. And it's also a state of mind, ... But it's all the ramifications of that state of mind. Once you've done the best you can, funk it!
