 I respect our players. They're prepared to forgo $1 billion in salaries this year alone and maybe hundreds of millions -- if not a billion -- next year. You've got to respect that. I don't always understand it, but I respect it.

 It's going to be harder than it was last year. We were able to sneak up on people last year, with our past record and our slow start. People were surprised with how we were able to play.  At the end of the day, this is how we get our respect. We win a Super Bowl. That's how we get our respect. If we do that, and people don't respect us, guess what? It doesn't matter. We're still world champs.

 Some people would rather be the favorite and walk in and play like the best. That hasn't been our thing this year. We have played to earn respect. And the way to earn respect is by going out and winning the next game you play. That approach has helped get us here.

 When I work with the youngsters, I try to see them in the way that Wayne Shorter sees me, ... It puts things in order. There is a respect and admiration I feel for people like Wayne or Herbie (Hancock). And there is a respect that people like Kirk (Hammett) feels for me. There is a respect that our children will feel for them also.

 Obviously, the $10 million is going to help a great deal. We are certainly hearing from many, many more rate payers than we did last year. The number of inquiries we are getting with respect to people needing some assistance … we're certainly a lot busier than we were at this time last year.

 The first time they gave it to us out of respect and tradition, what we had accomplished last year and what we had coming back, not realizing we had four freshmen starters. Now, the second time around, we earned it out of respect.

 People have been taking shots at us all year. As long as the people you work for respect what your doing and know who and what you really are, that's all you have to concern yourself with, and eventually over time the good news will get out.

 I respect every bit who Trammell is and what he stands for, ... and I hope that respect is always given by the people of Detroit. There's times we didn't win and people started to turn a little bit, but you always judge a man by his character.
